Great budget headset for the money!

I have had this head set for a bit now and I love it and for the price you really can't beat it. The clarity of the lenses is great and it is very light weight. Being able to adjust the IDP manually is a plus as well. If you are looking for a VR headset to start with and don't have much money I would recommend this one. If you would like to see more check out my videos on this headset at my youtube channel. http://bit.ly/2hg23QP

Great Headset that needs a little bit of tweaking

At first I was a bit skeptical of this due to some not so great reviews here and videos online.I decided to take the plunge anyways with the 1440x1440p model and I am enjoying it a ton. Plus the Steam card combo deal was fantastic! The Headset comes with an Xbox One like Controller that is surprisingly decent. They do not come with a motion controls. You can make cheap motion controls using stuff like the Wiimote and such look up stuff like Freepie VR on YouTube. Another thing is this is for PCs only and you can convert almost all your games to 3D and play them in the Headset. Look up BlueSkyDefender's SuperDepth3D for Reshade. Nvidia users look up 3D Fix Manager. Then install Big Screen Beta in Steam. Now for a moment. Lets push the 3D / VR function to the side. The fact you can watch videos and play games on a giant screen makes this worth the sale price alone (Steam Card bundle a no brainer). So the fact that is does VR and 3D well and comes with a decent Controller makes this an amazingly cool deal. Now setting it up.... Goto direkt-tek .com/support/ and find WVR1, WVR2,

First of all $20 for a real vr headset is a great deal it doesn't have motion tracking you can look around and that's pretty much it. most steam games will require you to have vive controllers to even play the game but I got some mmo and racing games working and working well, the software is pretty bad but just install it and get on steam, hit the vr headset icon in the top right and install steam vr, after that you can play steam vr games. The 2 $20 headsets have no eye adjustment and they have 1 hdmi and 1 usb. The 4K one has eye adjustment and 1 hdmi and 2 usbs the controller is ps4 like and is wireless, with a usb A cable for recharging the battery and in my opinion the controller alone is worth the $20 . I so far have had a good experience and think it is definitely worth the money if you can install the software correctly and find some games that work with a normal controller or mouse and keyboard

Decent for the price

Definitely not the greatest. The FOV is lacking (around 70 degrees), and the overall quality is lacking compared to current market. Cable is extremely short and is extremely prone to develop fraying after a few months. The gyroscope is poor and will often hang. It's a decent headset for playing 'EuroTruck' Simulator and 'Assetto Corsa' but just don't expect to get fully immersed in your play session.

ok so I'm going to make this as comprehensive as possible. you need a PC with either dual HDMI ports or hdmi and displayport/vga inputs. an adapter for a displayport/vga. to run steam vr requires a feed to both your monitor and the headset. so you need 2 USB and 2 video feed ports. I'm guessing laptops don't have this issue but that's only a guess. make sure to install the VR Tek drivers from the disk or website. start Holoview update everything firmware/software update option. install steamvr. restart comp. start steam/ start steamvr (the VR symbol top right of steam UI). initially you may only see a screen with grid lines. click on steamvr menu in the little pop up box when it doesn't register the headset and turn on direct display. next you'll see safe mode is on. turn off safe mode. next you should finally be in the steamvr home. you can move around but not interact. hold your start button on your controller and the steam big picture should come up. here you can access your games and software. now that said. I paid $30 for the wvr3 which has better resolution than the 2540x1440 because that is not per eye as listed. that is it's total resolution and the wvr3 has ipd and is 2880x1400 total. anyway long story short I have been looking forward to VR for years and am still waiting. I will say it is an impressive gimmick but until the resolution and refresh rates and field of view are improved VR has a ways to go. my reading glasses did fit and helped and it is immersive in a limited way but it's not yet where it needs to be. also be clear. very few steam games or apps work with a controller or with a controller mouse combo so that is another limitation although I'm not sure having VR controllers would improve the experience much. when these things have 200 degree fov with 5k resolution at 120hz refresh they will be amazing. until then it's understandable VR hasn't caught on. of course that level of technology to date is just expensive.

Headset after a bit of setup seemed great for the price but I returned the headset because the USB for the controller it came with broke off inside my laptop.

First unit stopped working (no video) after 2 minutes. After replacement and testing here is my review. Pros: 1. Clear video. 2. Works with SteamVR (as with any VR headset). Cons: 1. ONLY works with SteamVR. 2. Very uncomfortable. Feels like wearing a jock strap on your head with a brick attached. 3. Not well made but constructed well enough. 4. Not real VR as it has absolutely no head tracking. 5. Company is in California but unit is made in China. I suspect company is only a dropshipper and doesn't actually make anything. 6. Quickstart guide only shows how to plug in a USB and HDMI cable other than that absolutely NO documentation. Final: Since Oculus and most other VR headsets are insanely priced this headset is Okay for a taste of VR but you will not get the whole experience. It is possible to customize the headset by adding head tracking with NOLO or other such products. Ditching the uncomfortable and tight straps by fabricating something that fits better. You can actually make a decent VR headset from this unit if you put in the time, research and work. Money wise it will still cost much less than an Oculus but you can possibly achieve all the same features.

pain in the butt but. meh. once I got it working and found a few games that only work with controller (ones that don't need motion controllers) it was ok. and for 30$ or so that's what I was expecting... worth what it costs plus that Bluetooth controller is actually super nice. so I thought it was a good buy for 30$
