Bought at Best buy yesterday, checked it out and tried all the features after downloading the Roav App. All worked without issue especially the app and it's features. Some additional instructions should have included where to find the password for wi-fi for the device (found in last icon in menu 'About'). Lack of detailed instructions will have you going thru almost all menus and setting to see what does what, like pushing any button on the screen will start 'emergency' recording?! This morning, I attached the cam to my windshield and easily moved it till I found the best place for it to get a full road view. Had to watch out for the rear view mirror housing obstructing the view, but it wasn't a problem. Took a short ride around the neighborhood and when done I set my wi-fi connection and was able to get the video of my first few tests and the ride itself. I gave a nice clear view of the road and but did pause while uploading the playback a couple of times. All in all, if it gets a scene or event that will help you with a crash or collision, it should be worth it weight in gold. Hope to see similar results with the night vision capability, Too many inexperienced, inconsiderate and dangerous drivers on the road prompted me to get this device for my own and my wife's protection. People deny and lie about their part in an accident and this at least will help set the record straight, and for that it's certainly worth it.
I bought this dash camera about 6 months ago and it has been great. The quality of video is great at 1080p, and you can easily read a licence plate by zooming in. The wide angle is great for highways with many lanes so that you can see everything in front of you. I would recommend this to anyone that drives a car and for the price, you cannot go wrong. I will be buying one for my other car for sure.
I bought 3 of these and was very disappointed when they all succumbed to the "black screen" issue stated by others. I found that by reformatting the SD card (the camera can do that) the issue goes away for quite some time. When it returns, reformatting the card fixes it for me. I also use a good Samsung SD card as stated in the manual. I bought those due to the black out screen issue. I don't know if the original that is supplied with the unit is fixed with the reformat (probably). I tried this as another dash cam vendor states in their manual to reformat the SD drive every two weeks whether it needs it or not. So far so good. Saved me from buying 3 more cameras. I will also say the rechargeable batteries in all three cameras have worked for several years in our grueling Louisiana summer sun.
The 1080 HD resolution is 30 fps, 60 fps option would be nice. Continuous recording might be nice for a road trip, but you do have the option to start a new video loop by activating the + button. The size is about right for viewing and the night vision is stellar-quite good. There is no HDMI output for use on the home big screen, but the WiFi connectivity suggest you might use WiFi on the big screen to see dash cam video. I leave the device WiFi on all the time, making connection via the phone to download video one step easier. The engineering form factor appears good. I'll write further on this review after a few more months of use.
Great camera but an adhesive mount instead of a suction mount would be a better way to mount the camera to the windshield.
I've had this installed for about a year now. I caught a semi truck crashing on the interstate and was able to show the state trooper exactly what happened. All in all, I like the camera, and I generally love all Anker products. The one caveat with this product is the battery life. Within a few months, it wouldn't hold a charge, which makes the parking mode useless.
With being in Texas, it's expected that a suction mount won't hold for long and today proved me right. I've tried placing it back on but I can't for the life of me get the mount to go back to the “unlock” upright position without it feeling like the whole thing is going to snap off the camera into my hand. The book tells you nothing on this. I would consider using adhesive but the suction cup part of the mount won't allow for a flat surface to even put the adhesive against. The fact that Roav doesn't offer replacement mounts is insane. I know it was probably a business decision to decide to not sell replacement parts in the hopes that anyone who needed a part would just cave and buy a whole new roav dash cam but it's honestly making me want to buy a completely different brand (like a yi)! I now have a camera that works great but it won't stay on my dang windshield and I have to now figure out how to get this thing stuck back up. #frusterated
I have this ROAV Dashcamera and Im very disappointed on how long it lasted. At first it was a great camera but it started to record only when it wanted too. I've been in a lot of close calls from motorcyclist and wouldn't you know the dash camera was not recording. For its price its price, this product does not last. I wish ROAV can investigate and try to do something about this. I want my money back.
The suction cup is my primary complaint. I have resorted to using duct tape to support this roav product to my windshield. Everything else has functioned just fine on this device. I've owned this camera for more than one year now and feel lucky that it is still functioning after reading the other reviews. Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from an overly cheap suction cup that was doomed for failure from the production line. I have no further complaint for this camera other than if you forget it and leave it plugged in for a couple days, it WILL drain your battery. That responsibility comes with vehicle ownership and knowing what you're plugging it into and when to unplug it.
The suction cup doesn't work double faced tape would work a lot better. Everyday I come out to My car the dash cam is hanging from the cord
