I think this is as good as it gets for something that is not actual wood. Pretty sturdy, pretty good looking. Actually, way sturdier than I had expected. The clothing rod does look puny, but it still holds the weight of our clothes without bending. The paint job is attractive, with the streaks adding personality. I do not think it looks like solid wood, but my wife does. Also, you know how some papers are perforated along a line that says "tear here"? The back panel has a couple of those, in the shape of squares, I guess to fit really deep TVs. They look funny when the armoire is empty, but you can't even see them with the clothes hanging. I'd recommend this closet, even if it's *a bit* too expensive for not being wood.
My wife and I were looking for an Armoire for our new living room set and found this particular one online. However, it was around $400 until will found it listed on Walmart.com for just under $300. We had it shipped site to store, which was a quick turn-around. It took some time putting it together, but it was a great project for me and my sons. I was really impressed with the additional packaging that Walmart did in their warehouse prior to shipment.

I really like this armoire! From the pictures it looked like it was going to be a rough antique finish, with grayish brown and a lot of caramel colored streaks on it, but there are very few streaks and it is a beautiful dark brown color. The drawers slide smoothly. The doors latch nicely with the magnetic strip. I am VERY happy with it!
This is a great piece and was fairly easy to put together with two people. It is HEAVY, get someone strong to help you build and haul it where you need it to go. I use it for laundry room storage, and it is attractive and looks like a much more expensive piece of furniture. The knobs are not as nice as the rest of it; but those are easy enough to change out.
I was almost deterred from purchasing this product after reading several reviews. The assembly sounded like a nightmare. All in all, it took about 3 hours to assemble, but I felt the directions were specific and helpful. We had no issues with incorrect pieces or labeling or items not fitting together; HOWEVER, we did take time to lay out the pieces and organize the screws/nails prior to beginning the assembly. It is very nice looking - great value for the price. I would recommend this to anyone.
This is not the project for somebody without patience and some mechanical or carpentry skills. Several of the steps require some finesse and a bit of brute force, and the cabinet is heavy - very heavy. Like was posted before, we did replace the closet rod with an 1-1/4" dowel, not the cheap twig they supply. The two boxes arrived safely and almost all the parts fit perfectly. Driving the wedges into the top molding takes some care, and so does driving the back of the drawers onto the sides. (our region is damp all winter, that may have made it even harder that usual.) Only one casualty - a little nick in the top molding that can be fixed with a marker pen. The bottom shelf molding is loose, and that can be fixed with a little glue. Squaring the unit up to install the bottom back panel was difficult, and so was putting on the second side. I spent about 4 hours assembling this armoire, and I am no novice. Overall, compared to what I could find second hand, this was still a way better deal.
As you should expect, this is of the particle board, latch & screw variety. I will admit I do think it's of lesser quality than you would find at IKEA. Right out of the box we noticed this was darker than we anticipated, keep that in mind. Also I would say that I was disappointed at first at the quality of the parts and pieces, especially the little system used to hold everything together. I wouldn't expect this to survive a move, however, in the end when everything is together, it is sturdy. For the price paid, it's a nice piece. Suggestion: Build this somewhere close to where you're going to use it, it's heavy when all together.
This product comes in 2 boxes and takes about 3 hours to assemble. It's final look is like the picture, though the good price is probably due to it being made from a compressed wood than solid wood. We did a site to site order, which worked fine - but you might want to inspect the boxes before taking it home. We found some dinks in the wood where it came through the box protecting it. The dinks exposed the light wood underneath the dark stain. We were 1/2 way through assembling it and too lazy to go through the returning process - so we just covered the dinks with sharpie. Don't notice it at all anymore.
I am sure this would have been a good ARmoire if I had been given all the pieces to put it together. Instead of having a piece A and a piece B (the sides of the armoire) I was given 2 B's (two left sides) which doesn't exactly work when putting together... So I had to return...
