I have not used this yet or washed it. I am happy with the weight and softness.
The mat has a quilted cloth on the top and a waterproof plastic underneath. It works very well to contain any moisture to the mat itself. It stays in place with an elasticized cotton band similar to what you would find on a fitted sheet. It is meant for a crib mattress.
I received this item several days before it was suppose to arrive and I loved it, it fir my cradle mattress just perfect. I had been looking in all of the stores and decided to try Walmart online and I'm glad I did.
Perfect items, the mattress in a bassinet is so thin that this cover add the comfort a newborn needs.
The mattress pad that came with cradle is very thin and does seem to give enough Cushing and support for the baby. So I purchased the mattress pad and it seems to be working.
The waterproof mattress cover fits perfectly on the bassinet mattress. Nice quality.

Just wanted to warn anyone who wanted to buy this item counting on the description of Organic cotton. I ordered this online and I received a mattress pad cover that has no mention of being organic. The only cotton of any sort on this is the top layer (which is super thin, like a sheet) and the rest is polyester padding and what appears to be a vynil backing at the very bottom. I am definitely returning.
