Great camera setup. This is my second installation of this camera. First one saved me 2 times, once a hit and run, second one was a multiple car accident. Both times the other guys insurance did not even try to argue after seeing the video camera footage. Will be installed in any car I own.
Impressed with quality of video captured by the camera. My only issue is the connection to unit via your smart phone, its quirky and sometimes it connects right away and other times it takes many tries. VIA Bluetooth or using the wifi connectivity through the phone. I found if another WIFI is around and the dash cam unit can "SEE" it, it will try to connect to that instead of the phone wifi so you can adjust settings. It did somehow automatically connect to my vehicles built in wifi and I assume sends data to the think ware cloud. Although i have not been able to find a place to see the cloud data.
Easy to set up and use. Keeps you safer
You need to give me the option to shut off the start up announcement about how to connect to my phone. I really don't need to hear this everytime I start my car. It gets annoying. Like annoying enough that if I had realized I couldn't shut it off I probably would have bought another brand.
The retaining system on the bracket is seriously under engineered. The Bracket does not lock the camera in. It uses 3 ball detents with no spring to them. For the price it is horrible that this is under addressed.
Video and picture quality is great for front and rear facing camera. I think the interface is cumbersome and not intuitive and I'm a very technical person. I also don't understand why you can't connect it to home wifi to view the camera while the car is sitting in the driveway.
As of now I would rate it a 2. I order this and got it installed and within less than 10 minutes the unit became a brick from the firmware update. So I called thinkware multiple times and first time I called the lady said I had to email everything even though I order directly through them. So I did and then called again multiple times and spoke to a women who was super nice and helpful and had got me a replacement, with the mount and upgrade the memory card. When I got the replacement the camera kept saying the memory card needed formatted which I did several times and so I call thinkware again and of course they did the troubleshooting and said that it would be a bad SD card and will upgrade me to 128 for the inconvenience. I am tried of just upgrading me but not being able to use the product I paid for considering I paid over 600 for the set with the battery.
The video quality and what is incorporated into a file are amazing. However, the application is awful. The cloud feature never works and connecting via wifi or hotspot are always difficult. There are also no ways to turn off some voice alerts while keeping others without killing all volume. The app has little customizability for the cameras and is poorly designed.
If I could give this item 0 star I would. Don't waste your money on it, live view is not working, any other camera is better than this dash cam.
I bought it awhile ago it kept coming off my windshield, had to replace the tape about three times. The rear camera wont stay up either, and what i dislike the most is that even having 128 gb micro sd card, all the previous videos are deleted! will definitely not recommend, specially if you have a jeep wrangler.
