I bought this pump hoping it would help ease the whole pumping on the go, so far im really enjoying it i can clean the house and cook and so on while pumping makes it so much easier. No more being trapped to a machine.
This pump is simple to use and EASY to travel with. I originally borrowed it from a friend for our trip to Hawaii and FELL IN LOVE. I went ahead and made the purchase for myself, zero regrets! Thanks for a great product
Though pumps aren't meant to be shared, I was having a difficult time with my “free” insurance pump. It was bulky, loud and not easily portable. My friend offered her old pump and I bought all new lines/flanges. My life was immediately changed. I could do dishes, continue to to my job at work and even drive (not truly recommend, but ya know who has time not to!) My son was 8 months old when it died. As a full time working mom who had to pump, it was either go back to my horrid pump, or stop breastfeeding. I bawled at my options. My wise husband said “buy a new one!” & thank goodness he did! We breastfed till 15 months, and have it stored safely if we procreate again :)
This pump has worked out really well for me. I am able to pump about an hour after feedings and get about an ounce or two to store up in 10 minutes. Pumping in place of a feeding usually produces about three or four ounces, which is what my baby usually eats. I have started producing more milk in the three weeks that I've been using the pump which has helped me to improve my storage. My boyfriend and I used to have to take the baby to school with us whenever possible and swap him back and forth between classes so I could feed him because the pump I had used before was ineffective. This product has really helped boost my confidence in my ability to keep breastfeeding while I'm going to school. The pump itself is very portable and has a clip on the back so you can clip it onto your belt, etc. to be mobile when using the hands-free straps. I read a lot of negative comments about the hands-free set-up: It's true that it does take a bit to get it set-up and adjusted properly to fit yourself, but it's a one time deal. Once I got mine how I wanted them, I just left them that way so they're ready to use. They didn't feel very secure at first, but I haven't had any problems with them so far. My only real complaint is that when you set the pump's suction at the highest setting, it does make kind of an unpleasant noise. It's not really too bothersome, and not loud enough to wake up the baby when I pump in the room while he's sleeping. I got used to it very quickly, but it was a little annoying at first. Overall, I would have to say that out of the three different pumps I've used between my two children, this is definitely the best.
The Freestyle is convenient if your on the go however it never empties me fully. I have washed, changed the parts, changed flanges, tried different speeds for different amounts of time and I always have to hand express after. The pump is loud, there are many parts you have to disassemble and your milk can very easily pour out the top if you make a wrong move. I feel like my supply has definitely taken a hit from it. I honestly wish I had done more research before purchasing this pump as it is very expensive.
After about a month of having your pump, only one side works and the other one does not have enough suction. I've tried changing the tubes to the other side but only one side works. It's frustrating when I want to pump on both sides but when the one pump does work, it is nice. Also, I never received my check for paying for it in cash in my insurance paid me back.
While I love the convenience of not needing to be near an outlet I have spilt milk several times due to the gap at the base of the pump. If you don't do anything when you're pumping you should be fine but if you have it angled or bend over to give the baby a pacifier you may spill milk all over her
I ordered this pump because of its portability but I have not been satisfied with it. The parts are difficult to put together and it seems like if everything isn't lined up just right then it doesn't have enough suction to achieve a letdown. Sometimes I have to take the flanges apart a few times before it works, and moms spend enough time pumping without this hassle. I prefer my older pump, it's simple and the parts are fast to assemble, not to mention it was the basic double electric pump and much less expensive than this one.
As a healthcare professional, I am always reading about products that are trending. So when I became pregnant I knew I wanted to purchase a Medela freestyle. About after of month of having my child, I purchased the freestyle pump kit. I was excited at first. For the first 4 months I would pump 8x/day for 30-35 minutes on L5 (suction) and yield great results. After the 4 month I notice that the suction power decreased and I found myself increasing the suction power. Now I pump on L8 and and it takes me anywhere from 40-50 minutes just to yield about 4 oz total of milk. Due to this issue, it has resulted in me having clogged ducts. I followed the instructions on their website and bought new suction tubing, I replaced the flanges and shields, I even bought the smaller size shields thinking my breast and nipple size have changed. Same result. Suction is still horrible. Due to my profession as a nurse it is impossible to pump for 40-50 minutes at work.
I bought it a week ago. This being the second one to do this. First lost suction then pulled milk into machine.
