I really love this screwdriver set, I've done several repairs on my phones and computers and built several desktops with it. I love that the bits are magnetic and that there is an extender for hard to reach places. I love that the case is magnetic. I can't imagine a better screwdriver set. 10/10
When the Mako Driver Kit arrived I had to open up my laptop to replace the screen. I've been using an off brand China made screwdriver set for the longest time and using the iFixit screwdriver and the bits really is a big upgrade! iFixit team, y'all should be proud with what you were able to achieve with this driver kit!
A brilliant array of bits, every size and shape I'll ever need. Not just high-quality, but beautiful; I wish the cover was transparent so I could show this kit off more easily! I was not used to the magnetic cover/tray without hinges and had to fiddle a bit to open it the first time. I like that somebody thought ahead and put magnets on the bottom of the kit so that the cover snaps underneath when open. A few minor nits: The flex extension is not quite as handy as I hoped because it does not curve as sharply as I expected. It requires a couple inches of clearance above the screw to work. All the bits are held in place by a synthetic foam. Having worked with lots of old equipment, I'm guessing in a decade the foam will be disintegrating. The cover is nicely rounded, but that means it doesn't stack well with the Marlin screwdriver set I also purchased. I wish it had been a bit flatter. Even better, I would have loved to see magnets on the top corners of the lid to attach to the bottom of another kit.
This is a very compact and well-designed set for a great price. The touch of the handle with rotating top is very nice. The tips connect to the handle magnetically. The foam that holds the tips is etched with the names of each bit and each bit is also labeled. Upon very close examination I could not see any differences between the Philips bits and the Japanese standard bits of similar shape though, which are described as being less prone to slipping out of the screw. I cut out the guide to the bits from the retail packaging and taped it carefully to the underside of the kit's case. Because the four corner magnets protrude a little to give the case tiny feet, the taped on paperboard does not protrude and make the case more prone to sliding around. Also the magnetically attached lid can be attached to the underside of the case if you want.
My wife says I have an addiction problem when it comes to screwdrivers. She is right. My dad always said "use the right tool and you won't find yourself cursing or saying/doing something that might put you in jeopardy with whatever supreme being you believe in" I assume he's right but I hope it might be awhile before I confirm that. In the meantime I am hedging my bets using the best tools I can find. This one may save my soul!
this is the best kit i've ever had, to be quite honest. it's well-made, well-packaged, has all the bits and bobs needed for even a difficult laptop repair, is comfortable to hold and use, and i love love love the fact that all the bits are labeled on the shaft in ETCHING so it'll never wear off. saves me a ton of hassle trying to eyeball a t6 from a t7 or something.
The quality of all the pieces is great. Each bit is well machined and looks pristine. You get practically every type of bit you could need for electronics repair. The driver itself is well constructed, easy to use and very ergonomic. The magnetic bits make it very easy to handle those tiny screws (lookin' at you Nintendo). Haven't needed to use the whole set yet, but it's nice knowing I'd be prepared when that day comes.
Has held up well. Have still not lost any bits (fingers crossed). Loved it so much I bought another as a "backup" and a Manta as well. For precision work it's been great. Love the case and bit selection. I added a velcro strap looped around the case to prevent inadvertent opening when being tossed around in my bag but the magnets hold well in the shop/on site.
I love this screwdriver kit so much! I'm able to fix the phone back into its original condition! I highly recommend getting this screwdriver kit if you're looking forward of getting the job done!
Works well, very durable. Pretty much has all the bits that I need to fix stuff.
