It needs an on/off button so you don't have to adjust the volume every time you turn it on. The tone and volume wheels are identical, in the identical position on either side of the body. Very confusing. The numbers are very tiny. It works great! My mother refused to get a hearing aid. Now I can talk to her and have her understand, without shouting.
My mother who is 91, has difficulty hearing secondary to recent facial cancer with surgery, and had tried other products in attempting to hear her TV as well as room conversations. The other products were either too heavy or bothered her ears. The Pocket talker Ultra was perfect for her, and my mother's smile lit up the room as she states that she can now hear the TV and peoples conversations clearly.
In concept appeared great ,however Unfortunately unable to try, as booklet had mentioned that IF USER WORE A PACEMAKER MUST CONSULT with a PHYSICIAN.
I get a newsletter from Cape Cod Healthcare weekly. New information and techniques that are happening. 2 weeks ago , they talked about the "pocket talker" for hearing impaired people that do not have hearing aids , for various reasons. They are using this sweet little device in their ER and on the wards. I immediately bought one for my sister who is very hearing impaired (lost 2 hearing aids) and blind. Been with out any hearing device for almost one year.. AWFUL for her and visitors. This is a miracle. We now have a decent conversation,without the loud talking She is so happy smiled more in two days then she has a year. This product needs more advertising. Many, many cannot afford hearing aids. This is the next best thing. Wonderful. Comes with everything. head set, ear buds, even a 12 ' cord to listen to TV. We love it!!!!!!

This unit works well for what it is designed to do. It really is all up to the user to make the best use out of this. If your hearing loss can be helped by more volume then this will make a difference in your life. I bought it for my 97 year old mother. We have been having to repeat and almost yell at her to have a conversation for quite some time. We tried the headphones first but they were too large with not enough adjustment and kept falling off. The single earbud was a better solution but still may have to be improved upon. The difference in conversation is like night and day! It is like reconnecting with my mother after almost 3 years.
I first saw this device two weeks ago while my dad had congested heart failure and was in A-fib in the Hosptial. My dad is completely deaf. But the nurses were able to communicate with dad. I thought I have to get this ASAP. When my device arrives it is in a blue zip lock bag with the original placstic cut open and the zip lock bag stuffed inside it. I could not find a phone number to call it just said A Store. In the mean time his house sold and I have had to clear out 40 years of stuff and not much time to track down the seller. I will say the device it's self is incredible. There is hardly any feed back and for the first time he was able to have a conversation with multiple people.. With Hearing aids the back ground noise is too much and Distracting. The device gets 5 stars but when I pay $139.00 dollars for anew product that is what I expected to get.
