Awesome router! I started to buy this two years ago and have chosen three different ones instead! What a mistake! Well, I finally purchased this RT-AX86U router and it is excellent! My wife commented on how fast her tablet is now! I also love the Asus app and how easy it is to navigate! Awesome job Asus! Please change the photo of the app! It should be more vibrant instead of dull and plain!
This router was a game changer for me. Between online gaming and the distance it reaches I'm beyond impressed! Worth every penny. So thank you ASUS!
Delighted to have both 2G & 5G networks available for our Google network with both 2G wifi color light bulbs and 5G wifi plugs. Only poor signal in our 3 story living area is on backside of massive 3 story chimney/fireplace structure.
My Wi-Fi connection has improved immensely not only with speed but also distance. The new Wi-Fi 6 is blazing fast for streaming movies, games, so is the Wan/Lan ethernet connections also has 2.4ghz and 5G. Also it's capable IPV6 and has easy to use software.
Great features, easy setup with a great app
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have two of these great AX86Us in a mesh with a ROG GT-AX6000 at the head end linked on a 2.5Gb switch. Performance is excellent. I have 1.3Gbps service to the house and get 1.3G to my units wired to the 2.5G switch connected to the ROG GT-AX6000. Around my 4,000 sqft 3 level house, my AX based Phones, tablets and laptops regularly show 800Mbps on Speedtest. This is almost double what I was seeing with other routers.
Great that this has 2.5 Gbit/s WAN I use Ethernet backhaul at 2.5 Gbit/s.
I have the RT-AX86U setup in a AIMesh with other asus routers. It works great. It gives me great coverage over the entire home.
I bought this primarily for the abililty to limit bandwidth so my kids can't hog it all. Secondly, i wanted a router with greater coverage than my current router. I was expecting, pessimistically, for it to not function as expected or, at least, be a major headache to setup and configure. I was greatly relieved that the coverage is excellent, it was a breeze to set up, and the bandwidth limiter works like a charm! I even figured out how to turn the wifi off on my T mobile router, run an RJ45 cable to the Asus router, and broadcast just from the Asus! At last, I bought something that surpassed my expectations!
My kids complained about internet speeds so I upgraded to this router for the gaming reviews. The Wifi 6 and traffic profiling work great and the router has excellent range and is very fast. The issue is the iOS software to manage it. It forgets custom MAC naming, the family control time limits don't work sometimes and when you do a firmware update it wipes out all you custom settings (MAC naming, family assignments, family member settings, names, etc.)
