Few musicians did more to popularize bluegrass music than Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, whose band (anchored by Scruggs' superb banjo playing and Flatt's strong guitar and vocal work) were one of the most celebrated in the business. Between 1965 and 1962, Flatt & Scruggs were the hosts of a weekly television show seen throughout the South, and Best of the Flatt & Scruggs TV Show, Vol. 4 features two complete episodes from the series, featuring material unseen since these shows were original broadcast in the early Sixties. The songs include "Ground Speed", "Salty Dog Blues", "Cacklin' Hen", "Shady Grove", "Nine Pound Hammer", "Wildwood Flower" and other classic bluegrass numbers, while Scruggs' son Randy Scruggs, later to become a noted instrumentalist in his own right, makes his television debut as he plays autoharp alongside his father in a show recorded in March 1962.
