Wow! The Instant Pot IP-DUO50 Stainless Steel 5-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker has already revolutionized my cooking, and I've only had it for a couple of weeks! Having never owned a pressure cooker before, I wanted to learn all I could about it before I actually used it. The user manual looked a little intimidating when I first picked it up, but only the first 21 pages were in English, so it was not as involved as it first appeared. The user manual contains pictures to accompany the text for easy to follow instructions. A cookbook and some accessories came packaged with this cooker. There are Facebook pages (an Instant Pot community, and Instant Pot recipe exchange page) and Youtube videos available that also provide tips, recipes, and instructions for using the Instant Pot. Armed with this information, I was ready to begin cooking. The first thing I tried with the pressure cooker setting was a roast. I was impressed that it came out tender and flavorful in only one hour, as I typically cook a roast for at least 8 hours in the crock pot. I was able to remove the roast and make the gravy in the Instant Pot by switching the cooking option to saute. This saved the extra dirty pan that I typically have since I can't make gravy in my crockpot. Next, I used the pressure cooker setting on a package of frozen vegetables. I had recently defrosted my deep freeze and found a package of vegetables that appeared freezer burnt. I used them as a test for my initial attempt with pressure cooking vegetables. (Not that I would recommend you cooking food that appears old or freezer burnt, but...) Those vegetables turned out perfect. They were plump and tasted fresh. (I know they would not have been good had I cooked them in the microwave!) This was another pressure cooking success! I have also cooked beans, soup, and rice since owning this cooker. I have plans to make Crème Brulee, roasted vegetables, and BBQ ribs within the next week, and I'm looking forward to trying even more recipes. I would, without hesitation, recommend the Instant Pot! In fact, I've already shared my enthusiasm with friends and family. You may, as I have, find yourself wondering why you didn't have one of these sooner!
Instant Pot IP-DUO50 Stainless Steel 5-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker is easy to use. Used the Instantpot.com & youtube sites to find recipes as I did not find one in the box. The steel pot is very good quality. Heavy thick bottom generates even cooking. If something burns a bit, just let the pot soak for super easy cleaning The inner pot even goes in the dishwasher, but I highly recommend you wash the stuck on food off first. We found that the 5-quart size is perfect for two people to have dinner and lunch for the next day. Now that we have the hang of using Instant Pot, it can truly be a one-pot method of cooking many different foods. We made chicken and dumplings in one pot and it came out perfect. Then washed the pot, lid and seal and made Swiss Steak with baby potatoes, then BBQ pork for sandwiches and a chocolate cake for lunch. The pot worked great and handed the back-to-back cooking. We have learned that in most cases if something cooks 20 minutes it can take up to that amount of time for the Instant Pot to depressurize. Instant Pot has several safety features to prevent injuries. The pot will not pressurize if the lid or seal is not on properly. The lid will not open if the pot has pressure. The pot has several “beeps” to signal when the lid is on properly or opened, food is cooked and pot is de-pressurized. One of the features that is nice is the pot will keep food hot for many hours after the contents are done cooking per your specifications. The Instant Pot IP-DUO50 Stainless Steel 5-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker would make a great gift for anyone that hates to cook or does not have a lot of time to make huge multi-course meals. The cooker even makes yogurt. This would be wonderful to do for home-make smoothies. TIP: Do not over fill the pot as it will take forever to release pressure. If you try to manually release the pressure it could spout out hot liquids everywhere.
The Instant Pot Stainless Steel 5-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker is a great appliance. It can cook rice, yogart, slow cooker, pressure cooker, steamer, saute and is even a warmer. It is great to have 1 pot to do multiple tasks. It has 14 cookin programs. I was surprised at how light weight it is and compact. I was expecting a big heavy pot. I had a little bit of a hard time getting the lid on, maybe I should have looked at the arrows on the lid and pot that line up for it to close and seal correctly. After your food is cooked, you just let it sit for about 5-10 minutes for it to cool off. Once it is cooled enough, you can remove the lid. There is a valve on top that can be turned to release steam. There is a pop-up piece inside of the valve that, when the pressure is released, will drop down indicating that the pot is ready to open. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the pot to warm up before it starts cooking. I cooked a 2-3 pound bone-in pork roast. First I cooked it for 50 minutes as the recipoe had suggested, but it was not tender enough for me, I think my roast was bigger than what the recipe was for. I wanted it to fall off the bone. So I put it back on for an additional 30 minutes. Came out perfect, fell off the bone like I wanted. In between the cooking times, I made a gravy to go in it, delicious. I will definately recommend this 7 in 1 pressure cooker to my friends. My daughter is getting 1 from me for Christmas since she cooks alot in a slow cooker. I love this pot!
I am a Spark Reviewer for Walmart and was sent a free Instant Pot IP-DUO50 5 Quart Stainless Steel, 7 in 1 Multi Use Programmable Pressure Cooker to review. In all my 55 years I have never before used a pressure cooker. Due to a story my mother had told me about an experience my grandmother had when my mother was little, I was always afraid to use one. When I saw the Instant Pot and how sturdy it is, my fear of using a pressure cooker turned to curiosity. I read the directions from front to back and was surprised at how easy it was going to be to use it. The directions walked me through everything step by step and even included doing a short test run to make sure I had everything correct and that everything with the pot was working as it should. The test took about 15 minutes and after it was done, I felt confident that I could make a meal. I had a chuck roast in the freezer and took it out to thaw. I followed the directions to sear the meat to keep the juices in. I was able to do this in the pot on one of the settings and then deglazed it so I would be able to make gravy later. I set the pot as it showed and 50 minutes later the roast was done. At that point the directions showed me how to quickly release steam and open the pot to add veggies. Set another 10 minutes and I had a whole meal ready in one pot with the cooking time less than half what it would have been. For busy people like me this is going to greatly reduce the time I have to spend cooking and leave me more time for other things. I have to tell you that my roast was so tender it just fell apart. Everything from the top to the bottom was done and nothing was dried out like you get when you put it in the oven. An extra plus is the veggies come out retaining more vitamins because they aren't being boiled out. Clean up was a breeze and having the inner bowl that is removable made it really easy. The pot cooled down after just 10 minutes. That is even more of a plus as you don't have to wait long to move it. With the several different settings the pot can also be used to get most of your meal completed in one pot so you don't have to use separate pots and pans; and it can also be used as a slow cooker and yogurt maker which makes it take the place of 3 appliances. My tip for the Instant Pot is to make sure that where you place it on your counter to cook is out from any overhead cabinets because when you let the steam out, it really pours out in a hurry. I think the Instant Pot will make a great gift for any occasion and a must have for anyone who leads a busy life.
I received the Instant Pot IP-DUO50 Stainless Steel 5-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker from the Walmart Spark Reviewer program free for reviewing the product. This one pot replaces several kitchen appliances, the pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, saute/browning pan, yogurt maker, steamer & warmer. It has a really nice, large, easy to use control panel with 14 built in Smart Programs, dual pressure, automatic keep-warm and 3 temperatures for saute and slow cook. I think what impresses me the most is that it is UL and ULC certified with 10 proven safety mechanisms and at the same time, it is highly energy efficient and kitchen friendly. It includes the 3-ply bottom stainless steel cooking pot, a stainless steel steam rack with handle, and manual as well as recipes in English, Spanish, Chinese and French. It has clear notations that it is recommended filling liquid no higher than the MAX line on the inner pot, but for dry food, such as a chicken, pot roast, or steaming vegetables, the inner pot can be filled with food over the MAX line. The inner pot capacity is rated 6Qt for the full size. You can put a lot of food in this pot! And you can use all of your favorite slow cooker recipes as well. Even though you can use the included lid for slow cooking, there is also a clear glass lid that can be purchased seperately for those of us who want to see the food cooking.
What an absolutely fabulous cooking edition this product provides to everyone that loves healthy meals and does not want to spend half their day in the kitchen. I love this pressure cooker; there are so many healthy recipes offering complete versatility. It's now time to say goodbye forever to all those boring meals. With endless cooking options you're completely limitless to explore everything from standard dishes as in chili/bean soups all the way into more exquisite meals; making you feel like a naturally born ‘Iron Chef'. Anytime you're working with some sort of device that utilizes pressure, safety is top priority and the team of engineers at ‘Instant Pot Company' covered that area thoroughly. Please… whether you've used these products before or not, read through that user manual before operating. There are two ways you can release the pressure. 1. Using the ‘Quick Release' feature. Caution using this feature with high liquid volumes as it could splatter. 2. Natural release, only takes about 10-15 minutes in order for the ‘float valve' to drop down. Above all else my favorite features are undoubtedly the ‘Function Keys'. These functions not only take all the guesswork away from cooking but also allow incredible flexibility. Just take a look for yourself and decide. 1. “Soup” key- used for making soups and broths. 2. “Porridge” key- for porridge and grains. 3. “Poultry” key- makes your favorite poultry dish. 4. “Meat/Stew” key- you guessed correctly, used for meat and stews. 5. “Bean/Chili” key- Probably the one I use the most since I love cooking beans and chili. 6. “Rice” key-cooks regular rice or parboiled rice. 7. “Multigrain” key- helps cook mixed grains of rice as well as hard brown rice/mung beans. 8. “Steam” key- steams your favorite vegetables for or perhaps seafood. 9. “Manual” key- allows you to take charge and set your own cooking time, maximum 120 minutes. 10. “Sauté” key- another favorite of mine, this pressure cooker really does it all, no need to use a separate pan on your stove for searing meat. 11. “Slow Cook” key- converts the pressure cooker into a stand-alone slow cooker for a maximum of 20 hours cooking time. 12. “Yogurt” key- there are 3 separate programs within this function for creating yogurt, pasteurize milk/glutinous rice. There's also a “Timer” function too, programs when you want the unit to actually turn on. Great for scheduling meals so your entire family can actually all be home to enjoy it. The dish I prepared was chili and it turned out GREAT! I'm so looking forward to doing a pot roast next. This (Instant Pot IP-DUO50 Stainless Steel 5-Quart 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker) is a MUST have and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it! FANTASTIC unit and extremely user friendly! The cord is about 3'6'' in length, gave me plenty of room to comfortably work with however; they could increase the length someday to more like 5' or so. I love the options I have with this cooker. No fire needed...it plugs into the wall. The instructions were simple, and I was excited to see that I had nothing to assemble. A measuring cup comes with this cooker. It's small but it is great to have. Also included is a short ladle and a stirring spoon, a condensation cup ( which you attach to the back of the cooker), a recipe book, instruction manual, and a wire rack (inside the inner pot). Curiously, there are measurements etched to the inside of the inner pot for easy and accurate level measures. I cooked rice in the pot which came out great. The timer on the front of the cooker could use some tweaking but it is close enough. You can adjust up or down the time you want for cooking. Trial and error will fix any hiccups. I had to remember to ease the steam out by pressing cancel/keep warm instead of turning the dial to allow steam to billow out of the top. The steam is of course very hot and could burn you. I also realized that some liquid shot up with the steam when I was cooking soup, because I turned the dial to "vent". I appreciated the fact that when the timer ended on my rice, the cooker beeped to alert me, but automatically went into keep warm/cancel mode. The steam escaped gradually, and I did not have to do anything. There is also an option for delayed timer so that you can set a time for when you want the cooker to begin cooking. No constant monitoring. No worries. The cooker is not too noisy during pressure cooking...there is the sound of steam and a kind of clicking sound. I was not alarmed. I love this cooker and cannot wait to try making yogurt in it. This is great for someone with limited space. It negates the need for a separate rice cooker, slow cooker, yogurt maker and pressure cooker. Who has the space for all those things when you live in a cramped apartment in New York? This is all those things and more, in one. Thank you Walmart Spark Reviewer program for allowing me to test this. I love it.
It is great to have one appliance that is capable of doing seven different methods of cooking. The Instant Pot is multifunctional and can be used as a pressure cooker. rice cooker, slow cooker, yogurt maker, steamer, saute and as a warmer. A microprocessor controls the 14 cooking programs. I have always been afraid of using a pressure cooker but after reading and rereading the manual and doing the initial test run as suggested my fears were put to rest. Preparing a pork roast using the pressure cooker function was my first attempt and was a complete success. The Instant Pot is virtually noiseless when in use, there is also no steam or smell. I really like that there was no excessive heat in the kitchen. Made in Canada the pot is well constructed. The inner pot and steam rack is stainless steel and is dishwasher safe. It comes with a very detailed user manual. The recipe book has several pressure cooker recipes but half the recipes are what appears to be printed in Chinese. The Instant Pot would be perfect for the busy family as you can cook with high pressure and reduce your cooking time by up to 70 percent.
The instant pot is a combination, pressure cooker, steamer, slow cooker and sauté pot. It is a great item for someone looking for a way to exchange one item for several or for someone considering a pressure cooker or crock pot and might want a unit that has more than just one use. It's durable and easy to clean as well as looks nice. For items like lentils, stews, dried beans or grains it is an amazing time saver. As an electric pressure cooker it does a good job. It does run a little lighter pressure than stove top pressure cookers so you may need a few added minutes for some recipes. It is a little complicated if you are new to pressure cleaning but once you understand it and have tried a few items it is not so intimidating or overwhelming. Compared to normal stove top cooking, this cooks in half the time. It really is an all in one pot that can take over most cooking or at least replace a lot of other appliances. I have tried making stuffed steamed peppers with hamburger and rice as my first attempt. They were absolutely perfect and cooked in only 20 minutes. It does take an added 10-15 minutes to heat before it starts counting down time which makes it a little hard to plan any other baking or cooking to match time. The manual and recipe book are helpful but don't really explain the time for each function and the buttons don't have times only words like meat or soup or rice. That was a little disappointing but you can always use the manual button rather than the pre-timed ones. I tried a beef roast and a pork roast for pulled pork as well. I think the meat button does not cook quite long enough for a large roast because it was cooked but still a little tough. Usually pressure cooked meats are juicy and just fall apart . So, maybe I still need some learning. Again, I wish manual and directions had more info for times and so on to get the results I wanted.
I got this Instant Pot Stainless Steel 5 Quart 7 in 1 multi Functional Pressure cooker for free. I love that this is all in one and you can do so many things with this! This is something you can really stretch your dollar with for multi functional purposes instead of buying 6 other items altogether. I like that I got the smaller one to fit more in my kitchen and not take up so much room. There is just the two of us in this house so this works well for us. I love that I got this around the perfect time for this cold Chicago weather! I will have too much fun testing out new heart warming chili and soup recipes perfect to warm me up for this cold weather! The look of this Instant pot is way better then my other crock pot too. The instant Pot 7 in 1 cooker has a nice black and shiny steel look throughout and looks just like pictured. The cord to this Instant Pot is on the shorter side but that was the issue with my older crock pot as well about the less reach it has. This Instant Pot has a nice screen and every feature button is written clearly so there is no complication or confusion. This Instant Pot has a nice lock on lid that keeps tight. I noticed this right away from grabbing it by the handle from the lid to the tight fit of the box it came in. If you are looking for a high quality crock pot or pressure cooker or any other features this product has you should think about getting this one! The Instant Pot is 7 in 1 so what could be better then that?! I took a picture of this product in the original box it came in but they also shipped it with a bigger outer box too that had just the right fit for nice shipping. I also took a picture of the Instant Pot itself and compared the height to a water bottle. You will see that just the lid towers over the bottle and the nice grip on the of this Instant Pot 7 in 1 Multi-Functional cooker.
