I ordered this Microscope for my Grandfather, and he loves it!! He was thrilled with everything it came with. Almost every night he uses it to look at something, sometimes bugs, leaves, or a piece of my Grandma's hair he plucked out!!! I would say if you have a child or an adult who wants to see how things look up close, this is the product for you.
I purchased this microscope for my 10year old grandson. he loved it and played with it at least half of Xmas day which since he also got his requested video games, was amazing. This item is well made and complete with petre dishes and such. A great success and a good value
This product was a great gift for my granddaughter. It more than meet my expectations.The quality was great and the instructional information was very clear. The one draw back was that a few items I thought were to old for the age expressed on the package. The items were the scaple and the slicer. Over all this product was everthing I expected yet alot more.
The overall product is good and my daughter is really enjoying it, except the bulb did not work and I will have to get a new one. I did notice that it was a problem with some others who purchased it. I would be helpful if they would include a spare right in the package, especially if the one in there rarely works if ever. This would be my only concern.
This is a pretty good microscope for kids - The objectives obviously aren't as high quality as you would get in a professional microscope. My biggest complaints were that the slides arrived with scratches in them and the first light burnt out in a matter of a few minutes. The 2nd light bulb is still working though.
I was satisfied with the product and so was my 9-year old son until the light source went out on it and the company told me that I would have to send back the entire microscope kit at my expense and that it would take 6-8 weeks to get a replacement. All that for one little piece. Other than that, I was very satisfied with it and would recommend it to other children who are interested in science.
I feel that for the price, the microscope should be made with a little more durable materials. It should withstand minor adjustments of lenses without stripping out the lense adjustment knobs. This microscope was bought for a very bright 8 year old that uses microscopes and telescopes almost daily. It isn't as though she doesn't know how to adjust a lense by turning a simple plastic knob. I suggest that anyone considering the purchase of the Meade 900x Microscope kit, spend a little more money and purchase a microscope that your child can enjoy for more than a few minutes.
This is not a product I would recommend for anyone who is actually interested in seeing things clearly through a low-power microscope. I had low expectations for this kit when I ordered it due to the price. Even then, I am still disappointed with the quality of this kit. I was most dissatisfied with quality of lenses that are in this microscope. The image looking through it was very poor with deformities in the lenses and dust on the lenses for all 3 magnifications. They can not be cleaned since the dust was on the inside of the lens housing (which is made from plastic) and would require disassembling the microscope to access them.. The lenses themselves are also made from plastic. This kit comes with a replacement light bulb for the microscope, which was a good thing in my case, as the installed light bulb quit working after about 3 minutes of continuous use. The kit it's self contains a variety of things like plastic slides, a dull and flimsy scalpel, some brine shrimp eggs, and other assorted items that may be of interest/use to some people. In short, this is a TOY that appears to be a semi-decent-quality microscope and should be purchased with that in mind.
My husband and I purchased this as a Christmas present for our 6-year old daughter. I was surprised when I removed it from the case how poorly made it was. Granted, it is for my 6-year old but I believe I can find something a bit heartier for the price. I did purchase the 20-pc. slide kit in conjunction with which I plan to keep so my thought now is to simply purchase a microscope without all the accessories as the extras don't seem necessary.
I cannot believe even after reading the reviews that we went ahead and bought this product anyway. We even paid extra for the shipping just to get it on time. Our daughter took it out of the box and from that moment the light DID NOT WORK. You could not see through the top of the microscope. I took it back the very next day. Went on line and ordered from somewhere else.
