A favorable review of this product on an auto parts website stated it was available at Walmart for $10 less. After checking out Walmart's website to confirm the pricing, I ordered it online and picked it up at my local store. Good pricing and a convenient way to get what I needed! I must add that the parts cleaner with its dipping basket worked great and my tiller in now running like new with its rebuilt carburetor!
I used this on a 1971 VW carburetor. After taking it apart and removing gaskets and o rings, I placed it in the dip. After one day, I took it out and washed them with cold water and found the carburetor appeared as though it was brand new. Only need a little wipe down. Good Stuff that works.
Great Stuff--My generator would stall out under load.Soaked carburetor for 2 hrs and it runs great.
I actually tried this product on gun parts to clean them, and was very impressed. Cant get gas piston parts clean? Try this! Let soak in supplied basket for an hour and literally wipe off deposits with a shop towel. Harder deposits may require overnight soak, but it WILL eventually get even the toughest junk off!
Everything I've soaked comes clean overnight. I've been cleaning carburetor parts and engine parts. Bought a second can to speed up an engine rebuild
I used this product to clean the carbon off pistons from a 2004 Civic engine I'm overhauling. There was a lot of carbon built up on the piston heads and I soaked them 3 times for about an hour each time then used a brass brush to remove the loose carbon after each soaking. They came out looking almost like new. I didn't want to soak them longer since the material data sheet had a warning about use with aluminum and I only submerged to the top ring groove avoiding soaking the piston pin. Walmart had the best price I could find for Chem-Dip and I was able to pick it up in-store 2 days after ordering.
This stuff works well. I cleaned some pistons from a car engine. They were coked bad from oil burning. It took some soaking (2 days) but they came out looking like new and no wire wheels. The con rods were still attached and were varnished from the old oil. After a short soak they were shiny like new. I recommend this stuff.
I had a 1948 carburetor that had "gummed up" after sitting for several years with out use. I disassembled it and put it in the Chem-Dip to soak. After about 20 hours, I removed the parts and found that it had attacked the 'pot metal' slightly but did nothing for the black 'tar' left from the fuel. Obviously it wasn't meant for my application. (I did find that Acetone would take the tar off in seconds.) There was only 3 quarts of Chem-Dip in a gallon can with a plastic dip basket. In the old days it was a gallon in a 5 quart can with a metal basket. It was sufficient but I guess I prefer the olden days. :-) Not sure why the Dip didn't dissolve the 'tar' since it seems like it would be a common occurrence in the modern day fuels. WalMart did provide prompt and efficient service, contrary to my last experience.
I have used this product before and it works for cleaning carbs. My concern is the can was severely dented in the shipping process and fortunately was not ruptured which would have been a huge mess. The shipping configuration from Walmart/Advanced Auto needs a review and improvement.
Product is as described and works. Was very poorly packed and damaged in transit. Shipped from a warehouse about 50 miles from my location to Californis and shipped back to me in NE Texas
