I purchased this set via the Walmart.com web site. I expected what I refer to as a regular hitch and trailer dog bone style lock set. I was surprised to find that the locking mechanism was much more user friendly than many of the others that I've had in the past. This lock set allows the key, once inserted, to unscrew the entire end of the lock till it comes off. It does not spin or require two hands to hold the cylinder while operating the key like most other dog bone style hitch and trailer locks. Also since these locks screw onto the post you can tighten them to the edge of the hitch bar while many others just clink and rattle somewhat loosely. I am very pleased with this purchase and recommend these to others.
Haven't had these long, but I like them. I live in the country where trailers, etc. sometimes "walk off". Now I don't have to worry about my trailer leaving without me. Getting them out of packaging was the hard part.
Pros: same key fits both, screw-in tightening design works great, covered cap keeps the keyhole from rusting Cons: the keyhole cover spins around when tightening, can be annoying Summary: nice combination at a good price, definitely a good value
In searching the web for these types of locks, two things made me pick these. One, in every web site I visited there was a picture of four keys for this brand,,,Well,,,nope only two. Called the factory and they can not, nor will not, furnish two more. Even though I offered to pay for the keys and their shipping. Cost me $7. 21 to have two made. Even with two keys you do not want to loose any and have this lock in place when you did !! Four is better. Why not simply say in the description only two keys. Second that they were made in the U.S.A. Hummmmm, could this be another advertisement ploy also ?? Note: It takes 3-4 complete 360 turns to open/close the locked removeable side. Now if this key is also on a ring with your other keys, trying to turn in that tight location,,,,,,,,,,.
both ends of these locks are suppose to have the black rubber grip ( as photographed) I ordered twice and both locks only had one end with the grips. Too time consuming returning items to the store.
