Eiffel Tower Bookends The Eiffel Tower was designed and built by Gustav Eiffel for the great Paris exhibition of 1889. It was the world's tallest building until 1930. It remains the tallest structure in Paris, measuring 1,052 feet. 18, 038 pieces of steel were used to build the tower. To walk to the top, one would have to travel up 1,789 steps. The tower, weighing 7,000 tons, is painted every seven years using over 50 tons of special brown colored paint. The maximum sway in the wind is 12cm. Lights added in 1986 helped contribute to Paris' name "The City of Lights." Each set comes with 2 bookends. They are made of resin with an antiqued finish.
