I now have a mobile office, I am able to take my laptop and printer in my car to my retailers. After making their purchase selections, I simply go to the car and create and print the invoice on the spot. This saves me a lot of valuable time and makes me look more professional. I was concerned about the affordable price, but it works great!
I bought this product and i was weary due to some bad reviews but ignore all that, mines the only one that counts. I hooked this up to a battery in my trunk and powered a 19 inch tv and super nintendo, very fun. Also it has saved me from when i forget to charge my phone many times because i can plug it up to the cig lighter too. It would be good to have on a roardtrip for sure. Or if your power goes out in your house it would be good to have. Also, alot of people complain about the fan? Dont worry about the fan noise, its not loud at all, the only reason you would hear it is if you drive in dead silence without music....... Well i would say buy one if your looking at the reviews.
This is a great product, I can run a small tv and my xbox 360 at the same time for my kids while on long trips in my suv.
Well, I was going on a vacation for 2 weeks with my family, and I didn't want to be away from gaming for that long, so I needed a power inverter that would work for my PS2 and my portable DVD player (with docking station). This 400-watt power inverter worked great! I had no problems with it during the trip, using it for 7 hours straight and still worked fine.
A fantastic low wattage inverter. Perfect during power failures in an emergency supply box. Will run my 45 watt laptop and 15 watt power cord (phone modem) with little effort. While not strong enough to handle a microwave oven or any major heating units, still very handy in an emergency. For $20 and still the availability to run the computer; we're more than pleased.
PRO: I was surprised at the quality of the device The box was heavier than I expected because of the strength the units construction. I ran some tests and everything checked out to my expectations. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. The company gives clear easy to understand information as well as a technical glimpse of the modified square wave output. The unit is rated at 400 Watts with a peak of 800 Watts (surge required for starting some motors). Although not shown, the unit comes with a fused cigarette plug for 150 Watts or less and heavy duty battery clips for above 150 Watts. Hair driers and heaters are over 1,000 Watts and require an inverter rated at over 1KW. NEGATIVE: The units cooling fan IS POWERFUL, maybe too powerful. I had read about the Fan noise and it IS A PROBLEM. Being a "Do-It-Your-Selfer" I removed the four screws from the fan end plate of the inverter, DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREWS ON THE SIDES OF THE UNIT, I slid the bottom panel out and, after letting the fan run separated from the chassis to confirm the problem, decided that the fan was causing the chassis to resonate in a LOUD whine. A gasket made from bicycle inner tube completely lowered the whine to a purr. I recommend this Whistler product to anyone who wants a tough little inverter at a low price and is comfortable installing sound absorbing material between the fan and the end plate. I wrote to the company but even if they started adding a gasket immediately it would take 6 months to hit the shelves.
This Product is handy and useful and I also use it for recreational purpose such as to plug my computer and converter inverter to my vehicle to listen to music from my computer. This way I have access to thousands of songs stored in my external hard drive.
The Whistler 400-watt Power Inverter worked fine out of the box. During operation, the fan runs continuously. With a load of a 150W light bulb, adding a load of a 60W charger caused the inverter to trip its overload circuit and shutdown safely. The inverter may not handle high loads near rated 400W.
Bought this so I could use an old laptop in my car. This unit was about half the price of comparable units, so I went for it. The cable for the cigarette plug was a bit short for my car, so I made a longer one. The fan on this little guy makes quite a racket once it spins up, so I tuck this under the front seat - that quiets it down to a reasonable level. It works. I'm not disappointed - I bought the cheapest inverter over 300W I could find. Had I spent $80 I would have returned it.
In my opinion, this inverter makes too much noise. I know some reviews state that it's not bad, but I guess we all have our ideas of what is and is not tolerable. I am returning this item for a name brand inverter with a fan that is not so loud. For those who like it, great. Maybe I just got a lemon, I don't know.
