Good product

For the price this is a cool purchase. I was amazed that the more expensive model cost twice as much as this item. It's the same brand and has the same 1500 wattage. I read early views on the other digital Black and Decker iron and only 1 customer complained. Black and Decker is a real good product. You have to maintain the item, "dropping"would cause any product to stop working and I'm sure that's what happened with the person's iron only working for 5 months. I would have bought the old Classic Black and Decker but I stumbled across this one and I love it!

All It Takes is One Pass

This iron is easy to use; I can smooth out even the most wrinkled fabric with just one pass. The steam spritz helps. It has so many extra feature that make it well worth the price.

Good iron: steel sole plate, infinate heat setting

I have this iron for 2 years now. This is not my first Black and Decker steam iron. When I had trouble with the other Black & Decker iron's power cord (I think that the contacts at the point of contact betwee the body & cord may have built up oxidation preventing good contact), I contacted customer support. Because I had registered it when I bought it, they sent me this steam iron (provided I send them the cut off plug from the first along with a return authorization number that they provided.) I am pleased with the customer support they offer. This steam iron works very well. It has a stainless steel sole plate, so if I have any build up I can remove it with any solvent or even a razor if I wish (on a cool, unplugged iron, of course.) There is plenty of steam and it gives generous, strong 'poofs' of steam when the button is pushed. The temperature dial is infinate, allowing me to adjust for any fabric and it heats up nice and quick. A lit-up digital screen informs me of what type of fabric is suitable for the temperature dialed. It stands up nice and solid (not too easy to tip over.) I like how the toe sticks out so I can get into smallish areas. And it has a nice weight to it, so that I do not have to lean on the fabric to get the stubborn wrinkles out. My only complaint is that the water tank is made of a dark amber color so that it is hard to tell how much water I have in there. I have to turn the steam iron so that the water catches the light in order to see what the level is.

aren't irons supposed to get hot?

This iron was great for about a month, and then it's been getting less-hot ever since. Now when I heat it to "cotton" or "linen" the fabric barely gets lukewarm. Add to that a couple of built-in problems: first, there's no way to turn off the steam if you want to iron hot but dry. Second, the automatic shutoff is so quick that you can't iron one sleeve of a shirt without the iron shutting off! Poor design and poor quality.

This iron caught on fire!

I had this iron for about two weeks and was really happy with it- until it caught on fire! I was using as usual this morning and when I had it in the upright position (not plate down) a loud beeping sound happened and I saw smoke pouring out of the top of the iron and the strong smell of something burning. Needless to say I unplugged it and ran outside before any major damage happened, but I will never buy another Black and Decker iron again!

I've only had this iron for 1.5 years and it's broken. The display shows ERR for I'm assuming Error, and won't heat. Unfortunately the owners manual does not deal with errors or troubleshooting in any way. I've also had no luck with getting information on line either. I guess I'll just throw it away and get a different brand this time.

Avoid!

The iron went bad after less than 6 months: it started with a partial contact - going on and off..... I guess the wires weren't well-soldered or something close. I tried to open it but as a special screw was used - and it's beenn useless ever since. Unfortunately, I've misplaced my receipt and now I'm stuck with this red herring!

Didn't Last A Year, Lousy Quality
(1)
Reviewed in the USA on 2012-05-13T17:00:00

Worked fine when it worked; the electrical connection where cord enters iron stopped functioning after approx. 6 months of use (and who keeps their receipt for an iron, not me unfortunately). Irons used to work forever, now they don't even last a year!

I won't buy another one...

Almost since the first day I used this iron I've had problems with it turning on and staying on. Don't know if it's the swivel cord or the wheel dial. It will eventually turn on, but sometimes it takes ten minutes... not great when you're in a hurry!
