This product was easy to put together. I have some experience putting these types of things together so I knew what to expect. Instructions were easy to follow. All hardware was provided and it took about 90 minutes to put it together by myself. The quality is about what I had expected and it has been working out well. When the cabinet is empty, it seems like it would be easy to tip but once you load all your audio visual equipment in it, it is well balanced. I would have like one additional shelf. My only complaint would be that it is slightly taller than the matching entertainment center that I had purchased years ago so when they stand by each other they don't quite line up.
This is a very good piece of furniture, especially considering it is the ready to assemble type. And you can't beat the price. It went together quite easily for me. The only thing that I would have liked it to include is another shelf. Still, I give it 5 out of 5 stars overall.
We ordered this mainly for a bookcase, even though we knew it was for audio equipment. We were concerned that it might look cheap and we were going to hide it in an extra bedroom. However, it looks great and we decided to put it right beside our big screen TV and let it hold all our audio and video equipmnet that we just didn't have room for any more. We even had room to display some nice books on the top shelf.
I have owned two of these piers for about 4 years now. They are decently constructed particle board self-assembly pieces. The doors are a bit tedious to get on and it takes while to get a flush, straight fit, but it IS possible to do (carefully read the manual). The framed glass door, adjustable shelves, rustic metal hardware, rich color, crown molding and depth are all nice features. A great thing about Sauder furniture is the fact that they stand by their products for five years. I have replaced the complete front sides and tops of both piers and matching TV stand for free. If a piece gets damaged, no matter what reason, they will replace it free of charge. (I only replaced them because of a few nicks and scratches. In fact, some pieces didn't even need replacing. I just wanted an all-around new look again since I was about to get a new TV.) Just keep your manual for easy processing. They look sharp with the TV stand as well. Mine currently holds a 50" plasma and all are very nice pieces of furniture, considering price, warranty terms and materials. I can't complain. I may also need to order the bridge for my center channel speaker. Hope it is as functional and appealling as the stand and pier. Great product!
The appearence is very desirable. Unfortunately it is not an eay piece to assemble. It is a very heavy piece for one person to handle. As all furniture you have to assemble with doors they never go on correctly. You must have patience and after that you still will not get the doors perfect.
I purchased my first pier in 2004 with our new TV. I needed more storage space so I got another one in Dec 07. We placed a wide board across the top of both piers and it looks just like the $2000 entertainment centers you find at the furnature stores. It's a great look for a great price. Only thing that I would have liked was more "structured" storage for DVD's.
I bought 2 towers and the bridge that goes with it when I bought my 52" widescreen TV and it looks great! I admire it everyday how nice the whole setup looks. I would have given it a perfect overall rating but when you by from Sauder because everything this is hand made sometimes it comes with little dings (it even says so on the box) Before you put it together check all the peices and make sure its not too bad. I had a couple imperfections but nothing noticeable to others I know they are there because I put it together. I had no problems with the doors hanging crooked and my HD Directv box and my DVD player fit in there just fine. I decorated it with old hard back books and Plants on the bridge. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
This audio pier is excellent for the price. The fit and finish is what you would expect at this price range, maybe a bit better. Thin veneer on particle board. But it fits together pretty well and looks good. Not too hard to put together, but adjusting the doors was not that easy. Took about 2 hours to put together. Be careful about the width of your components. Standard stereo components will fit with almost no room to spare on the sides.
Looks nice after assembly altho it is almost impossible to get the doors hang straight. Scratches easily - sliding in audio components scratches the color off the shelves and door. Brown shoe polish works wonders and that's a good thing since I bought 2 of these along with the bridge, TV stand and a bookcase.
I purchased this because I wanted something small, that would not overpower my tiny living room. It looks great. It does not hold a great amount of media, but it suits my needs. Easy to assemble too.
