I had a baker's rack that was about 6" wider than the hutch. Everything I stored on the rack could be seen whether I wanted it to or not. I like the hutch because it was a little smaller and gave us some much needed room around our table. None of my items I have stored on the botton can be seen. No one wants to look at my pancake griddle or other coooking appliances. The things I wanted to be seen were placed on the upper shelves so it looks pretty. The shelves on the top of the hutch are not adjustable. I put my laptop on the bottom shelf so I could have access to it in the kitchen but the first shelf is just about 1 inch too low for me to open the laptop completely. That was disapppointing. Overall it is a great addition to the kitchen.
