I had almost the same deal with the other cheap airtime company, but their model of Samsung was so slow it was a pain to use and you had to buy airtime each year. Now my phone instantly opens web pages and apps and now no paying for airtime.
This is truly a quality phone (Galaxy S4). Has a ton of great features.
The phone is excellent quality, can't tell it is refurbished. Freedompop uses Sprint, whose coverage isn't has good for me as Verizon was.
My galaxy s4 is great! I've had service with freedom pop for a year now and the service is iffy at times but you can't beat the price and I can make and receive calls most of the time. So I think the phone and the plan are both very good deals.
The S4 is an improved version of the S3, both great phones. Bigger screen, better camera, longer battery life. I would buy another if the need arised.
The S4 is a terrific phone and this is a decent price for it. You'd honestly struggle to tell the difference between the S4 and S5 usage wise. Freedompop refurbs tend to be very clean and look like new unless they specifically mention "b stock". Those definitely look used and have wear. My trouble has been with the freedompop service itself. Its based on sprint 3G/LTE, even the voice part is done over the data network as a voice over IP service. Sprint (like other carriers) thoroughly overstates their coverage area. My whole neighborhood shows as a solid green excellent signal but I barely get 1 bar of 3G in most of it. In downtown areas I definitely get a strong 20MB LTE signal. The trouble is the reliability of the service and the addons. I've had several texts just not get received or delivered, with no notification of failure. I've also had several calls not get through, although no trouble dialing. When you are in a call, voice quality depends a lot on your cell data connection. If you're on wifi its decent. If you're in a congested area or the phone is flipping from LTE to 3G and back, its terrible. For several days I had the phone trying to make its connection to freedompop with the green swirly and it wouldn't connect. Many others reported the same problem. Customer service is horrible. Factory reset your phone, wanna buy some of our value add services? No? Then you're the only one with this problem! Then I get an email saying my case was closed and I was satisfied. It went away on its own after a few days. I ended up installing google voice/hangouts on it and giving people the google voice #. My texts work reliably with that and if the phone doesn't ring GV answers it and sends me the voicemail with a transcript. I don't spend the day with my face in the phone and just want something marginally capable for occasional and emergency purposes. I would never, ever in a million years suggest this service if you depend on your phone or would suffer problems if a text got lost or you didn't get a call, or any notification that a call occurred. You should also look into the 'optional services', one of which is voicemail. If you dont pay the $3/mo for it, it'll answer your calls, take a message and never tell you that someone called and left one. Even if you then sign up for it, you can't retrieve messages left prior to paying for it. There is a little package of voicemail, data rollover, 'premium voice' which lets the phone decide if there is no sprint data coverage but cell coverage available for outbound calls only, and not for texts, plus hot spot tethering. Its about $6 a month.
You get what you pay for. I couldn't make calls or get voice mails with any sense of reliability. The only time I could make a call was whenI was connected to my own WiFi. Unless you make all of your calls using your own WiFi and don't care about receiving reliable timely voicemails don't buy these phones or this service.
I absolutely love this phone, but the service Freedompop is a joke! And here Sam's club is offering this awesome phone for such a wonderful price, but it is attached to a terrible unreliable service provider. I ended up returning the phone and canceling my Freedompop account.
If it sounds too good to be true......well.....it probably is.....AS is the case with these phones. I purchased 2 of these phones and I am planning on returning them today. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a great phone! The Freedom Pop Service....not so much.........Which is why I verified that I would get service where I live and and I don't get reliable service at all! I only activated one of the phones to test and sometimes it may ring and some times it doesn't.... sometimes you can hear people and most of the time they are breaking up.....sometimes you get a missed call or text and sometimes you never get it. Also, could NOT get a local Longview area phone number so had to get a phone number from Como and it is long distance to dial it from a landline phone! So, it has been my experience that, Freedom Pop is NOT worth me leaving Verizon, whom I have had great 4G LTE service with for years. Oh....and also.......I found this out only AFTER purchasing the phones, they will only let you operate them on a "Sprint" network if you leave Freedom Pop. Had I known that to begin with, I would not have purchased these phones........So that is the reason for my poor ratings........
Do not get freedompop. WORST decision ever. I bought a samsung galaxy s4 November 27th as a black friday sale online. I think i paid $120 for the phone and that included one months service. The phone never properly worked and calls were dropped, I could barely hear the other person on the line and they always said it sounded liek I was in a tunnel. It was the WORST service ever. I tried to return it adn they would not let me within the 30 day buying period. So then I tried to trouble shoot a thousand times with no help from this company. I had like every upgrade on the phone I could get which they talked me into. Despite calling and emailing a bazillion times they still never helped me.They SUCK to say the least. I had to argue and get nasty with them to get the phone deactivated. DO NOT downgrade the service. COMPLETELY deactivate. I called sprint after I deactivated the phone who told me the phone was unlocked completely to use with ANY carrier. Despite the fact that freedompop told me it was sprint locked and could not be used anywhere else. They totally lied to me about that one. I was able to buy a net10 access code and airtime and keep the current sprint sim card in the phone. I activated my phone. I had to DELETE the freedom pop messaging app for the phone to make and receive calls. Then I downloaded a generic messaging app to get text messages but my phone TOTALLY works now! I can make and receive calls. Calls are crystal clear! My internet/4GLTE is working great when I leave my home(away from wifi access) and I couldn't be happier to be back at net10. It was a learning experience. They actually have GREAT Service. Just make sure you enroll in auto pay because it can be a hassle if you don't! I know that one from experience. They always fix the problem and say what they are going to do but it can be a while to get a hold of someone on the phone with net10. They are GREAT though! And I also had my credit card on file with freedompop cancelled upon cancelling my service. I have heard lots of stories were they charge your account a bunch of times after deactivation so I just went ahead and had it cancelled. Bye bye Freedompop.Hello Net10..I should have never left- I love you! haha
