I've been looking forward to getting this car seat for my tall 20 mth old. She's still rear facing and loving it. The seat is quite heavy but it was pretty easy to install. I love the Shadow pattern. It doesn't show up stains/dirt that easily and the material doesn't snag.
This seat is great because it has plenty of room for a toddler and also a very small footprint. My daughter was very comfortable in it and slept in it for hours on an airplane. It's low enough that you can still lower the tray for coloring, eating, etc. and it's narrow enough that you can still use the arm rests next to it. It has excellent safety ratings, so you don't have to feel that you are sacrificing safety for a travel-friendly seat. The option to fold it makes a huge different when lugging it down the aisle on the plane, and I highly recommend the carrying case to for the sake of balancing the substantial weight of the seat on both shoulders.
I bought this seat because my 3.5y/o son is 40lbs. and I wanted to keep him rear facing for as long as possible. This is my 3rd Radian and they are great seats. I love that they can be tethered rear facing, have a steel alloy frame and great comfort features. A few drawbacks are; its heavy and it can be difficult to install in some vehicles. But with the 45lb. rear facing limit, tall shell/harness slots and 8 year life span its a great investment. There is plenty of help available with the install online or with a local certified child passenger safety technician.
My eldest daughter is almost 3 now and she's been in her Radian since she was 10 months old. We kept her rear facing until she was 26 months, but then we had to move her from the middle, to the outer seat so that we could put the infant seat in for our youngest. Because my husband is taller, we couldn't make the Radian sit rear facing at the correct angle placed behind the driver's seat in our extended cab truck. But when it was in the middle of the bench seat, it fit great rear facing in such tight quarters. Since the Radian has such a small frame, we can fit it, and our infant seat in the back of the truck and still have room for an adult to ride back there if necessary. Also, I was able to fit the Radian, an infant seat, and a booster seat, all in the back seat of our Malibu. We plan on purchasing another Radian for each of our vehicles soon to take the place of the infant seat for our youngest.
I bought this for our 4 month old - we like the seat however we have had to get creative for toys!
