i love it
I have an envy note book and wanted to give the surface a try just for kicks. I kind of wanted to make fun of it, as I know it couldn't compete with my envy. Well...I was so wrong! The first couple of days I knew I wasn't keeping it, but the longer I had it, the more I started reaching for it, instead of my notebook. After 2 weeks, I was only using the surface! What did it for me was the screen quality, speed of bootup, fast access to programs from the SSD, stunning video streaming without buffering and it (surface pro 3) is so beautiful! I did purchase a small usb fan to keep my surface cool when I'm at home using it casually, it really helps when playing games, watching movie after movie or just streaming ESPN all day long! :) What I don't like is that this doesn't come with a keyboard! Without the keyboard, it is hard to make the claim that the surface pro 3 will be your only device and is a laptop replacement. The well made backlit keyboard is the key to running this vehicle! It would be a much better out of the box experience for the consumer if the keyboard was included! Luckily for me, they were offering the keyboard for free at the time for the i7 models, which is why I went with the i7 over the i5. Remember, I was planning on keeping this machine. Of course I got rid of the envy and haven't looked back since! I don't know if I could be any happier with a device than I am with my Surface! There are a few peripherals I will purchase to complete this bundle of awesomeness, but for now I am very happy with this purchase!
Works great
I was going to hold out for the Surface Pro 4 - but my Dell XPS 13 broke and was off warranty. I have another full size laptop and while its a good one, it weighs a ton and is more a portable desktop than a mobile computer. (Dell Mobile Precision circa 2012). So my Boss asked me to spec out a new laptop and I immediately went for the Surface Pro 3. I've been watching Surface for a while now, and was surprised that Microsoft didn't fold it after the first one was a dud. Surface 2 gave some hope that they could pull it off, and Surface Pro 3 has been the best iteration yet. I normally have to be wowed to give 5 stars. Surface 3 Pro has a few annoyances, and while it hasn't wowed me, it's getting 5 stars just because of how useful this device is to me. I'm in IT - and just switched titles. My role is still rooted in the technical side, but I am also moving more and more towards management. Because of that I am back in school for Business Administration. For fun I play guitar in a band. I use my Surface Pro 3 to help me in all those areas plus. Notes for meetings? Check Replace everything in my backpack for school? Check Visual Studio and Visio? Check - it doesn't even sweat Reaper and Line 6 VST's for recording guitar tracks? Easily a Check Shopping Lists for the family? Check Oh, and one of the biggest reasons I got it - portability so I can plug into switches and routers at work. Having a full USB port is great for swapping out serial usb cables and gigabit network devices. I just ordered a gigabit usb cable with 3 extra usb ports on it. I could've ordered any laptop for under 4 grand on the planet - but chose the surface. It's so flexible, so portable. The pen with one note (and a few other downloadable apps) makes this more than just a hybrid laptop/tablet - it brings it to a whole new level. Add in a true Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM and the Surface cuts through any job that I need it to do. With all that - there are 2 glaring deficiencies to me. A) The Pen holder is horrible. Being such an integral part of the experience, Microsoft needs to do a better job of making sure people don't lose the pen. B) The type cover isn't an accessory - while it is detachable, in my opinion, without it the Surface isn't a true laptop replacement. Because Microsoft is touting it as one, they need to include the type cover in the base system. It's nice, but not $130 nice. Either include it, or slash the price in half.
The Surface Pro 3 is great. I like how light it is to carry. So far it does everything I want it to. I'm glad I bought it.
Just as a heads up this is no longer available to get the free I repeat FREE windows 10 upgrade I tried that and you have to pay for it even though it says in the discription that it is eligible Microsoft no longer offers it
A tablet that can be used as a laptop. That's what I needed, and that's what this delivers. It's powerful enough to run the programs I need, like Office and Photoshop, as well as others. You can even play some decent games on this if your a gamer, not the latest and greatest Battlefield this, or Call of Duty that, but the wifey can do her Sims 4 and those really finicky Facebook games like Farmville2 just fine. I had to get the keyboard cover for it, otherwise it's just a tablet. That's one reason for only 4 stars. At this price point it should come with it, not just an optional add on. The usb 3.0 port is awesome, I can plug a number of things in there, an external hard disk is always in use for me as it has my aforementioned Photoshop, Office and other programs on there, along with the associated documents and support files etc. A 3 port usb hub is in my future I think, so I can also use other usb devices at the same time. You can't go too wrong with this, great features, plenty of memory and power, and with the keyboard cover, it's well protected as well.
