I have a small graphics shop and portability is extremely important for me. After a lot of looking I decided to purchase the Surface Pro 4. It had everything I needed Ram, speed, memory, & touch screen. The only thing it was lacking was USB ports, I need at least 4, it only has one (I did buy the dock so I could run everything from the surface if I needed). Two days out of the box I setup all of my software on it and it ran every large format printer and plotter I have and never skipped a beat. This thing is a work horse. I can run all of my programs I need for my machines, do billing, and print shipping labels, all at the same time on this surface pro 4. Battery life seems to last forever when I don't need the dock. The dock keeps it charged the entire time. The touch screen is very responsive and the pen lets me write notes and draw on almost everything I can pull up on the screen. So no more pen and paper when meeting with customers. It nice to take the type cover off and set and draw the art work I need without the cover being in the way. If you plan to purchase the Surface Pro 4 definitely purchase the type cover also.
The Surface Pro 4 is a nice unit. Set up with 16Mb of RAM and the Gen 7 processor is pretty close to the performance of the latest Surface. Beware, this Pro 4 has a micro slot making the RAM easily expandable (so don't pay extra for more built in ROM). The latest Surface doesn't have a micro slot. Secondly, There was a lot of back and forth over the pen that Deal Road sent with the unit. In the end, they were very fair and patient with me and went further that I expected them to.
This is a complete workhorse; definitely a laptop/notebook replacement. Its light and fast. When complemented with a docking station, external display and mouse, it takes the place of a desktop too.
Love all the extras the surface has to offer!
