This is my first Fellowes. Wish I had done this years ago. No name or store brands just can't compare. They jam much too easily and sure are noisy. My 89Ci is everything I could ever want. The jam proof is as "simple" as not taking in too many pages to begin with! Smart. Solid feel and mush quieter than one would expect. I am cleaning out my attic and have lots of old papers like tax returns that need shredding. This unit is going through them so quickly! Plan to get one for office as well and put an end to the constant malfunctioning. Thank you Fellowes!
I have used this shredder in my home office for about 2 years. It has worked perfectly, every time. I oil the cutter blades about every hour of operation. I use 3-in-One oil, it's a lot cheaper than the “Fellows” oil and works very well. The only negative I have found is the mess around the basket. The small pieces of shredded material fall out of the cutters when I empty the basket. Then I have to get my Dust-buster and vacuum out the leftover pieces. However, I still highly recommend this shredder!!!
This is my fifth shredder. I was about to give up on these machines when I selected this one. Couldn't be happier. If you follow directions this one is really durable. I do oil it after (more or less) 30-40 pages. Only drawback for me is small size of drawer. We do a lot of shredding and must empty machine more frequently than I like.
fellows shredders are one of the most wide know shredders today. the shredders are made to last and if they malfuction they have a service call number and if they can not get it running they replace it most company try to make you feel you did something wrong fellows wants to keep your business and if your happy you will tell your friends and they may bye a fellows for themself great company to deal with thank you gary odenthal
Having gone through approximately six cheap shredders from other brands, we finally got smart and bought the Fellowes SB89Ci! The other shredders would heat up after only a small amount of copying, and took soooo long to cool down enough to be usable again, that a good part of the day was wasted. We are trying to reduce our paper overload and it was very frustrating. Now with the SB89Ci we can shred to our hearts content! We actually get tired of shredding and have not yet shredded long enough for the machine to overheat. Thanks for a good product.
We love how quiet it is when it is operating. That's the best thing about it. We can even use it when we are talking on the phone. It is also great that it has a large waste capacity. If I have one fault with it, it's easy to poke a hole in the bag when I'm changing it.
The SB-89Ci is a great shredder although it won't shred 15 sheets of paper at once, it's limit is about 12. It also isn't as quiet as I thought it would be, I'd hate to hear a loud one! All in all, I'd purchase this shredder again, it's a sturdy product and well worth the money.
We are a 5 person law firm. We shred quite a bit. This compact machine does quite well. If it jams, it reverses the paper and adjusts, and sucks it back in. I believe it said it could shred up to 18 pages. But it won't do more than about 12. Either way, it's perfect for small businesses.
This is a replacement for another discontinued Fellowes shredder that lasted ~4 years until the plastic toothed gears sheared off. Works great for light to medium volume. Cannot shred a small trash bag full of paper in one sitting due to overheating. When emptying waste bin, the trash bag rips easily if you forget to put your hand over the front sharp pieces of plastic. I like the ease of emptying, but be sure to not rip the trash bag. Messy if you forget this. Lubricate shredders with vegetable oil.
Unit works well. You might have to do the following if your shredder was like ours. On the shredder bin we had to place a 12" strip of packing tape to prevent shredded paper from falling out and on to the floor. The basket has two small screws that screw into the face plate, however they are screwed in completely but the bottom base won't meet flush with the face plate allowing small pieces to fall thru and onto the floor.
