STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO-SEASON 5 2PK (DVD) (6DISCS) (DVD)

Excellent season...excellent series.

I just recently finished off my "The Streets of San Francisco" series by ordering season 5... the last season--unfortunately. The fifth season had a character change which, when I ordered the season, appeared to be the reason of the show ending. I do NOT believe that the new character was the reason. He did an OUTSTANDING job. They wisely made the new investigator character different from the first. During the first two weeks of the fifth season they were giving Michael Douglas an out for his character because of a commitment that he had planned. They began the season with a two episode opener which not only was dark and dreary but had main guest star Patty Duke...of all people...as a KILLER. She has acted as a "monster" in shows and been good at it but this did NOTHING to further this WONDERFUL series. As it was disappointing and I, thus, skimmed through both episodes I can certainly see how 2 weeks in a row of this would have turned the viewers off. I give this season 5...as well as the first 4 seasons...5 stars. Though the opener was thoroughly disappointing the rest was every bit as good as the first 4. I have dozens of complete tv dvd series' and the "Streets" series is one of my very favorites. I would recommend it to ANYONE. It really is refreshing when you can watch a cop series that has excellent cast, characters and scenarios without the gore and total depravity of so many of the newer series'...some which appear, to me, to be a primer for budding criminals... I would have loved to have been able to have a few more seasons of this show...but that was not to be.
