Nobody, not even the geniuses behind Final Fantasy, can craft an RPG like Bioware. This game is one of the few in which you actually play a role, rather than watch cutscenes in which the role is played for you. In just about every interaction, you the player get to decide what your character thinks, says, and does. The universe of Mass Effect is totally original, and more fully fleshed out than just about any other RPG world. It's so well made that you're actually interested in side details that tend to be boring or tedious in other games. It's full of awesome characters that are almost never cookie-cutter archetypes. It does a very good job of engaging you with the characters in your party, and thus makes some of the decisions you have to make about them painfully difficult. Combat gameplay is not perfect but still entertaining. It blends third-person Gears of War shooting with its RPG special ability trees, but balance is tilted toward the latter because NPCs tend to shoot at walls. The quest and plot structure are classic Bioware, meaning you'll frequently find yourself surprised by plot twists and go through each story a different way each time. The game is appropriate for mature teens. It's not bloody or profane. The M rating mainly stems from one... ahem... love scene (that CAN be avoided) and the player's ability to make Machiavellian decisions with the characters in the game.
What's to like: -immersive and epic story -lifelike characters with detailed skin textures and facial animations -expansive explorable galaxy -multiple outcomes to a multitude of quests -fun, fast, and furious combat third-person shooter style -outstanding voice acting with several recognizable voices -detailed character customization: choose gender, appearance, and class -upgradable weapons, armor, and equipment -the choice to be naughty or nice What's not to like: -after loading an area, the textures take several seconds to appear -long, slow elevator rides -managing your inventory can be a headache -compatriots AI is sketchy, they like shooting walls What else: -dialogue heavy, a lot of conversation. this adds to the immersiveness of the game but if you have an itchy trigger finger, you may find this annoying
I rarely play games more than once. I am on my second go at Mass Effect and plan on a couple more! I had high expectations for this game and was not disappointed in the least. Graphics are beautiful ( Although slow to load at first ) Gameplay is tight ( AI tends to be sketchy at times. ) Story is great! It gives you just the right amount of satisfaction yet leaves you wanting for more. There is even some love triangle bits to the story, which adds to the mix very nicely. Customization is vast and the open galaxy exploration is almost a second game to itself. Perplexed over the too realistic long elevator trips. (Elevator music included) Might be necessary for load times but aggravating nonetheless. Do yourself a favor and grab this game!!
I ask my boss if this game is alright and he told me it was great. The game play is alright....I found the story line great. You can customise your character's apperance and modify your fire arms, armor, and ammo. so if you are into rpgs then get it.
Normally i dont play rpg more than once but mass effect will keep u glued it is one of the best third person shooter rpg out there so far.
My Friend and I have been both playing this game and are fairly close to completing it. We've both spent over 20 hours of gameplay going through the story. The games story was well written and the game play is great!
This game is easily one of the best on the 360. Great graphics, gameplay, an awesome storyline, and amazingly real charactors round out an awesome gaming experience. I do have to say that this game can be a little intense and mature at times in both story and gameplay, so buy it for someone older and not a young kid. If you are mature enough, it is worth the cash spent.
Genre: Sci-Fi "Action" RPG From the start this game has been engrossing. The character customization was limited, but I enjoyed that aspect. I got to add a few interesting personal characteristics and created a character that I would enjoy playing. The game allows you to "choose your own path" when doing side quests but is fairly linear when following the main story line. I believe you could breeze through the main story in 10 to 15 hours, but you could double that time by doing side quests along the way. I've been trying to do every side quest available so that I can level up and get more details about the universe that I'm playing in. The game plays in a third-person perspective and the battles are fought in real-time versus turned based. You can guide two other characters (out of six or so in your party) when you go on quests. The achievments are tied in with the game cohesevily and also entice you to play more than one time through. Overall this is a high quality game that I look forward to playing so that I can continue the story, but also because it's just very entertaining.
This game met all my expectations with excellent gameplay and a untouched movie like dialouge system. The game isn't with out its glitches and some shortcomings that shouldn't have been over looked. If your a fan of the KOTR you'll love this game as well. Overall, a must buy for all!
this story line is very difficult to follow. You can get lost in these huge worlds really easily. When i got this game i had no idea what it was about and 3 months later im still lost. It's a good thing i got COD4 and didnt spend my time on this game which has very bad combat controls by the way. It is not worth your 65 dollars. Buy a different game.
