We've had many grills over the years, but this has been the best. Assembly was easy, it works great and takes up very little space. Heats to 500° in about 5 min., sears steaks nicely, and low temperature grilling is excellent. We cook on it 3-4 nights a week, year round. Steaks/chops/fish/chicken/ribs/corn, everything. Nothing has failed in 2+years. A tank lasts 3-4 months. Low maintenance. The heat plate needs scraping occasionally, and other clean-up is easy. Porcelain coated grill is still like new. A little rust beginning to show on chips around the body & top. 2 minor issues: A. Original instructions said place ceramic briquettes in bottom, but they absorb grease and become useless. Customer service recommended eliminating them - no apparent performance difference. B. The aluminum grease cup corroded through and dribbled under the grill. Replaced it with a tin can - free - no more leaks. Want a small grill that performs well? Thiis is the one!
There's nothing bad to report here! Easy to assemble (I'm a single gal whose most complicated assembly would normally be matching shoes and my bag), heats up HOT (over 700 degrees, if yours doesn't you put it together wrong!) and YES, you CAN buy a cover for it (check online, they are everywhere and cheap). I just cooked a steak on it, took 10 minutes tops, cooked evenly and perfect. Pop the grill off to wash, wipe down the inside, empty the grease cup and you're done.
This is our second Patio Caddie - the first lasted about 12 years - Excellent for a small household. Grill heats up extremely fast and will cook anything to perfection. Even with the small LP tank the gas lasts "forever". My husband absolutely loves cooking on this grill. When he came in about a month ago and said "well, the Caddie is just about gone" the look on his fact said it all. So I got online and purchased another one from Walmart to be shipped to our local Walmart. We had notice in less than 5 days that our grill had arrived at the store. When we picked it up at the On-site Dept at Walmart, we then took the grill to the garden shop and had them assembly it for us (at no charge) (What a wonderful service from Walmart.) If this replacement grill lasts half as long as our first one we will be extemely satisfied.
Not hard to put together, good size for 2 people, easy to store when not in use and good price for product.
I've had 4 of these grills before. Last fall the last one went to it's grave. I have been looking for one for around 6 months. This product is just right for up to four people. It takes up very little space and has low up-keep
Purchased the grill in May 09. Was easy to assemble and works great. Small footprint. Perfect size for my small family. Didn't realize there were no briquettes, not that it matters, was just surprised. Also, lid does not attach. Hooks on side of grill. Was abe to use a full size tank. Love it.
Lasted for years. Parts available when needed. Good procuct support.
I found directions adequate, but the nuts and bolts were difficult to fit. I had to use some of my own. Initiated with steaks--delicious.
This product has HUGE potential. It is an excellent design. I use this as a no hassle alternative to a messy Foreman grill. I cook on it all of the time. The gas lasts FOREVER! When I built mine, I threw out all of the nuts and bolts it came with and spent over $20 on Stainless Steel replacements. Being an outdoor grill, this should be something it comes with. After about a year, the cast iron heat plate was destroyed. Everything else on the grill was in perfect condition (thanks to using one of those grey Weber grill covers). My friend and I just replaced the cast iron heat plate, tonight; with an eighth inch stainless steel one cut out of some of his left over material. WOW!!!! What a difference that made! Holy Moley. The flame distribution is even (unlike before), the temperature climbs up much quicker, and the stainless heat plate glows red hot. I am a true fan of this grill and think it is an AWSOME value, but I think consumers would be willing to pay $10 more if Char-Broil would just supply stainless hardware and a REAL stainless heat plate that won't degenerate itself. When and if it croaks, I will buy another one. But I will continue to do what ever I can to fix any future quirks with the one I currently have.
Have previously owned 2 Patio caddies and loved them. Now I would not purchase another. Handle on lid keeps falling off and is no longer constructed the way the use to be. You can no longer light with a lighter in case the igniton would happen to fail because the spaces on the grid are too narrow.
