Just bought the grill yesterday and now I'm reading the reviews. OOOPs. Used it for the first time in the dark last night and ruined my Spanish Mackerel. Didn't Pam the grill first and the mackerel burned to the grill plate like chewing gum on hot pavement. It took 500 degree heat and 15 minutes of elbow grease to remove the gunk. I had to throw the fish away. All and all I am very pleased with my new grill. It heated up very quickly. I had some cheap steak as a back up and mmmmmmmm was so good. I take full credit for it though. I can make anything taste good off any grill so it doesn't really matter. I can cook off of uneven heat and if the ignitiion goes out, big deal. Get a match. I bought the bottom of the barrel because I am just that good. If I get a year out of it, I'm happy. No buyers remorse here (not yet anyway).
I purchased this grill after extensive research of grills under $200. I feel the build quality of the grill is high, although I recommend strongly that if you have the ability, assemble the unit yourself, that way you only have yourself to blame if something falls off. I found the assembly instructions very easy to understand, and assembly did take a couple of hours, but having assembled myself, I feel the grill is extremely sturdy and strong. The included tools also worked perfectly, something I found surprising. As far as cooking goes, I've tried cooking all sorts of meats, vegetables, and side dishes over the six months that I've owned the grill. The first time I used it was for my fathers 70th birthday party. That included cooking burgers, dogs, kabobs, various vegetables & beans, all of which were cooked to perfection. I have continued to use the grill throughout the winter, with no problems. I know that several reviews have expressed uneven cooking. I have to agree that there are hotspots and cold spots. I have figured out which areas are hotter and which are cooler and have used this to my advantage. After all, you aren't spending over $500 on a grill. And at this price point, you're going have to sacrifice something. As far as build quality goes, it's been outside for 6 months of some of the harshest weather we've seen for sometime, and it looks just as good as the day I bought it. I see no signs of rust, even after being buried in 2 feet of snow a couple weeks ago. It has been extremely easy to clean, and it starts immediately every time.
I was given this grill for Father's Day last year and was very excited. I am well known for my grilling/BBQ. It had lots of room to cook at least two slabs of ribs, 6 whole chickens or at least 20 burgers. After the first use the ignitor went out. Not a problem, just used a lighter. Before the end of summer it started cooking unevenly (front too hot, little heat in back). I took it apart for a very thorough cleaning of the eyes to find it had rusted all the way through - this after only two months or so. I attempted to take it apart to replace the burner only to have the entire assembly fall apart in my hands due to rust. I cleaned it well after each use but it was obvious it was made of poor materials. The frame is very unsturdy and had to be screwed back together after each use. Absolutley the worst grill I have ever bought.
This grill worked fine for 2 summers of moderate use. Then this past Memorial Day weekend (at the cabin w/ family) the dang thing wouldn't light at all. I spent a couple of hours messing with it, trying to take it apart and completely clean it, all to no avail. The parts were rusted to the point that it was impossible to disassemble. Should have bought a Weber to begin with. Have learned my lesson.
We had this product a little over a year and the ignitor does not work. The inside of the lid is peeling and flakes get all over the food, the heat plate is rusted up and it never work very well for preventing flare ups. The burner rusted a hole though it and Walmart does not sell any 3 burner replacements. When I talk to a Walmart Associate about replacing it, I was told I was the 8th person in the last month to stop in looking for one, all for the same unit.
This is THEE worst investment my wife and i have made from walmart. $69.30 for a stinking Burner unit that can only be found online I will NEVER buy a Uniflame product again. Inside the hood is peeling, and as all of the other reviews say "the ignitor unit quit working
At first, this was a great grill. We bragged on it to where several we talked to bought one just like it. Well, it has been less than a year. Our grill has never been in the weather as I cook in the car port year round, no sun, no rain, no snow or wind has ever hit it. In less than a year, all burners have rusted out and they cost over 65 dollars to replace. Almost half the cost of the grill. Walmart does not sell the parts at the store. I have never had a grill rust out the burners although they had been in constant weather. BAD DEAL.
I Have had this grill for a little over a year and the ignitor went out within the first 2 months I had it. A couple months after that it started burning unevenly. I pulled the grates up and noticed the heat plate was rusting out and under that was the burner, aslo rusting apart. I nursed it along until now and I am not able to use it at all. I am completely disappointed in this product and the burner is $70 online to replace, you cannot find a burner or heat plate anywhere but online. I kept care of it and had a cover on it at all times. The top inside of the cover is now peeling and being damaged by the heat also. I will not buy this brand again. I am now having to buy a new bbq grill. What a waste of money.
I bought the four burner grill from walmart two years ago. I was satisfied, not impressed by the way the grill worked having owned two grills prior to this purchase. After about one year (after the warrenty expired) I noticed rust forming on the heat dispersal plate of the grill. Later I pulled the heat plate off to find that the burner unit was almost completely rusted out. The grill no longer had uniform heat. It is very time consuming when you have to constantly mind the grill so that you do not burn half of what you cooking on the grill. I recently brought the rust problem to the attention of the company and they told me that I should have scrubbed my heat plate and burner with soap and water with a soft brush after use. I have never heard of such a thing considering that my grill is always under a cover when not in use. If you do not mind buying a high maintanance grill or if you do not mind if your grill only lasting for a year or two, buy this grill. I recomend that you look around for a grill that does not have UNIFLAME written on the front. The following pictures should tell the entire story.
Grill is less than 2 years old. After one year it did not heat evenly and the igniter stopped working. Burner completely rusted apart before the second year was complete. Parts are so expensive that you might as well buy another grill. However, the worst thing is that a bracket on the grill shell itself that held the cheap (rusted and falling apart) heat shield up rusted through and fell off. Now the heat shield lays down on the burner. Funniest part of this all is that you can't find that part to buy. So far here is the list to buy after two years: heat shield - $38, burner - $60, igniter(s) - $20, bracket to hold heat shield up - ? can't buy it. Grand total is approximately $130. :) Now, I need to apologize to my wife on why her Father's Day Gift to me from only two years ago was a waste and we probably should just buy a new grill. But never a Uniflame. PS. Uniflame's web page is horrible.
