Better than a Tarp!

I purchased one of these to go over the picnic table when we went camping on labor day. I also bought an expensive tarp to go over the tent. My kids kept tripping over the ropes, no matter how many times I warned them & it never broke. My tarp broke the 1st day! I'm here today to buy another one to go over the tent! It was also easy to set up. I bought the metal stakes seperatley and was able to put this up alone.

A necessity with the Instant tent.

I wish Coleman hadn't forgotten all the great ideas they have incorporated into their tents when they made the Instant Tent. One major shortcoming is the lack of any cover over the entry door. When raining, there is no way to keep the rain from getting in the door when coming or going. Luckily Coleman makes this handy lightweight tarp that fits PERFECTLY over the top and extends out from the front to give it a porch that solves that issue. This Coleman Sunshade is a must if you have or are considering a Coleman Instant tent. It will keep the tent cooler during the day and allow you to enter and exit when it's raining without getting the inside soaked. As many have stated in other reviews, the stakes included with the Sunshade are the weak point. Plan on getting some beefier stakes because you want this tarp to be stretched tightly. Other than the stakes, we were very impressed with how well Coleman thought out the details on this tarp. The poles have some kind of coating that resembles a baked on enamel with specks in it. Attractive and I assume it will prevent them from rusting so quickly. The shock cording keeping the poles together is a steel cable for longer life. The poles come in their own stuff sack that is a durable fabric, double thick at the bottom, drawcord to close the bag with the spring button to keep it closed. The stake bag is the same durable material and is generously sized to add a set of heavy duty stakes ( I think they anticipated people getting more stakes) and it too has a drawsring closure with spring button. All the parts fit nicely in the carry bag which is the same durable fabric as the other bags and has a decent zipper. There is plenty of room left over in the bag for a mallet to drive the stakes in the ground. The provided cords are very heavy duty. Like a thick paracord, and they include tension devices that help make it tight as a drum when you properly erect it. The tarp material is lightweight rainfly like material with a silver lining that keeps the sun from radiating through. It also serves to reflect light nicely at night. All attachment points appear to be well reinforced to stand up to the tension. The design appears to be well thought out for a long life. This product is unique as far as I could find. Kelty had a product that is smaller and of course more expensive. There are plenty of self standing, heavier, and bulkier canopies. Most need a center pole that limits what you can do under it. What this product has that I really really like is FLEXIBILITY!. There are so many different ways and situations that you can use this, and the more options a piece of gear provides us, the better I like it. It would be worth the money if you had to provide your own poles. I haven't tried it yet, but I can see where two more adjustable height poles might be very handy. As I mentioned at the beginning, we purchased this to remedy a shortcoming in the design of the Instant Tent (which we like), but once we got this in our hands and set it up the first time, we can see many other ways this will be very handy. We like. We like a lot. I could justify buying two of them, they're that handy. It's like carrying an extra chair, but getting an "Easy-Up"'s worth of shade. Good deal. Be prepared to hear the same question over and over when you take this out... " Where'd you get that?" Well done Coleman. Coleman should include this with every Instant tent. It is the perfect companion to a tent with a unique design that has to be the easiest erecting tent ever. 5 stars for the tarp, 4 for the tent since it's not included.
