[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, when you get a smoke alarm from Kidde, you know you've got quality and a reassurance of safety. This Kidde i12040 Hardwire Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup has a lot of great features. First of all, it's interconnectible with up to 24 devices, including smoke, CO, and heat alarms. It's made for easy installation, with a wiring harness that is prestripped and ready to mount. Also has a large mounting base, and get this- a plastic cover like a shower cap, to protect the unit from dust and debris when being mounted in construction areas. It's got a battery back-up, and comes with the 9V battery already installed! Also has the alarm tester and hush button, which works great. You can read the rest of the features and specs on my pics of the box. I've included a pic of the device, even though I haven't gotten my dad to install and wire it in yet. This is a great quality smoke alarm and I'm glad to be installing several of them in my home. I can definitely recommend this to others!
The new smoke detectors were the exact replacement for my original Kidde smoke detectors. The old detectors had expired; over 12 years old. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My home is getting older and I have wanted to change out our smoke alarms but I was not sure how to accomplish the task. After receiving my replacement smoke alarms I watched a simple YouTube video and attempted to replace my first one. Within about an hour I was finished replacing every smoke alarm in the house. Basically it was 3 wires in and out. The brand I replaced were the originals and not Kiddie so I was afraid they would not match up but they were very easy to install using the existing wiring and mounting points in my home. Safety is very important and I will definitely recommend and help family, friends and neighbors replace old smoke alarms with new Kiddie smoke alarms.
Installed by builder. Recently noticed a strong burnt plastic smell in the house. Found the smoke detector to be the cause. The fire alarm didn't even go off!
I am an electrical contractor doing new construction in South Florida. We install these on 3,000 homes annually and after years of using Kidde, we are finally switching to BRK. Kidde smoke and smoke/CO detectors have become so bad, we can no longer support them. The product is absolutely terrible!!! Do not buy!
The alarm is defective. I installed it, and it has not stopped chirping even after changing the battery. It is also 2 years past the manufacturer date. For an item that is supposed to be changed every 10 years, that's a lot. I contacted the seller about this with no response. Contacted WM and the seller didn't respond to WM either.
