Can't understand one negative review written here... this stuff is great... Wish I could show you how beautiful my 4'x4' wall board came out! I am no genius but if you use some common sense and follow the directions you get great results. Have also recommended it to others who are accomplishing their fun projects to completion with no difficulty whatsoever. Get a can and have some fun!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use the chalkboard paint on anything I can find that can be made into a chalkboard. My kids love it and I am really happy with the finished product every time I use it. When directions are followed properly, this chalkboard paint works as well as the chalkboards I remember using in elementary school 30 years ago.
nice project for kids rooms and really anywhere you wanna put this. have some friends that have used it on cabinets in there kitchen to have a family reminder board and on the inside ledge lip to indicate where things should go on the shelfs. it really works and looks great on the wall. careful of the overspray beyond the tape line that you make. you can even do cool designs with it. It covers 12 square feet. Have seen it used to make animals on a wall like a big teddy bear and even a snake. Anyways, get this and give it a try!
I read the directions and followed them. When I started spraying, it splattered and dripped. My spraying surface was on an angle, so I was left with drip marks. Was able to wipe them and resprayed after the proper drying time. The can dripped from the nozzle so bad it dripped over my instructions, couldn't go back and re-read them. Was able to finish my project, but I need to go to the store so I can read the last step before I use my chalkboard for the first time. Like the other reviewer stated, Krylon does make some good products, just not this one. I did call the 800 number but it was later in the afternoon on the west coast, they were closed.
I used this to resurface a worn chalkboard. Just like everyone has said, blobs of paint dripped from the can, blobs spurted from the can even though I kept it more than 12 inches away. My only option was to cover it and cover it and cover it again, trying to fix the mess it created. I actually came here to read the directions because the paint covered the entire can and I couldn't read the directions! Thank god I did it outside. A complete mess.
I bought chalkboard paint to cover a table for the grandkids. The surface was cleaned and sanded. The moment I started spraying the surface. huge drops fell from the can. When I took my finger off the button, the can continued to spray. The amount in the can did not cover an area 32" by 64" More paint covered my hand and arm than actually covered the surface.
I bought this paint from our local hardware store. It was extremely easy to use and looked great! ....until I went to write on it. I followed all of the instructing on the can, did 5 coats, waited 24 hrs to write, "seasoned" it with chalk, but nothing would write on this paint! I tried standard chalk and I tried the new chalk pencils. I went over and over the same letters TRYING to make it legible, and after an hour and a cramped wrist, you still can barely read it! Waste of time and money. I'm going to try some of the online recipes to make my own from people who have had GOOD results.
I bought this product to turn a closet door into a chalkboard. I followed all of the instructions to a tee, and have noticed a combination of the issues others have posted in this review section. It's a shame that I trusted Krylon's good name and didn't search for reviews before purchasing the product. The product comes out in uneven spurts, and pools in the area near the nozzle. This creates a terrible and unavoidable mess, and a ton of waste. Now that I have finally covered the surface area with the paint, I have gone through 2 and a quarter cans of paint, my hands and drop sheet are covered in the product, and because of the poor consistency that comes out, there are drops going down the surface. I have used spray paint on an incline in the past, so I know this is not the issue. I am not forced to wait for the paint to dry, and give it a light sand, then hope that another coat will fix it. Luckily I purchased extra paint, as the advertised surface coverage of the product is clearly untrue.
I started with the spray and it was messy as well as asphyxiating, so I bought a can of brush-on to complete my half-finished project in my classroom. However, now that I am finished, I am super disappointed. Even though I waited overnight for it to dry, when I try to write on it with chalk, the paint is removed. I tried both traditional chalk and some expensive chalk markers. I am super disappointed and in a conundrum because I have Open House at my school tomorrow.
If I could rate this zero stars I would. Purchased to spray the front of an 8x10 picture frame glass front to use as a menu board for a wedding shower. First spray sputtered, dropped, and spewed paint everywhere. I've painted hundreds of items through the year INCLUDING MY FOOD TRUCK and I would never EVER use or recommend this product. Luckily I am wearing gloves to serve at the shower, otherwise I would be embarrassed.
