We live on 3.5 wooded acres, and from time to time I need to fell dead trees to ensure that they don't fall on our house. I've avoided buying gas powered chainsaws due to maintenance concerns of yet another gas powered device. I read other write-ups on electric chainsaws, and was pleased to see that people were giving these a thumbs-up. So I thought that I'd give it a go. I decided to buy through Walmart because of their 90 day money-back guarantee. (I could have got this same saw about $10 cheaper through Amazon). I am very pleased with the saw. It doesn't have the solid feel of a gas powered chainsaw, and cuts take a little longer, but it still does a great job at cutting through quite thick trunks.
Overall these saws are a good buy if used properly and not abused. Drain the oil tank after each use or it'll drain itself where ever you put the saw down. The motor is not made to withstand more than about 30% duty cycle, it does lack cooling ability so stay within the 30% duty cycle. Using an AWG12 gauge extention cord reduces the voltage drop that will lead to the motor running hotter. Keep the drive area clean and the chain sharp & properly adjusted. While these saws can no way compare to a professional engine-driven like Stihl, if they're cared for and used properly, they'll give years of service.
I have yet to use my chain saw as the weather has not been warm enough to be outside. I do know that I like lightness of the saw as I am a tiny woman. I will post more once I have used my saw.
However, the chain popped off twice during the first twenty minutes of use but it was easy to fix.
As you might guess, this purchase was for my husband. He really likes it a lot. The only complaint he has, is that on the first cut the saw bounces a little, and it is hard to get it into place; probably because of the light weight (which is otherwise a plus).
This product met my expectations. I had some big pieces of pecan logs that I needed to cut to fit my log splitter. It performed as described.
While I have never used the 16" guide-bar Remington chainsaw, I have used the 18" guide-bar on quite a lot. (They don't seem to make it anymore.) What I have to say is that it take a WHOLE lot of maintenance. Many pieces just break and have to be replaced. I also have had to add washers and stuff where the plastic cover broke. So if you like chainsaw repair better than actually cutting wood, buy this saw.
The chainsaw arrived quickly after purchase over the net. However, it sounded like a grinder (ear splitting noise). I've used an electric chainsaw b4, and they were quiet. Also the plug had a hard plastic shroud around it that was warped. In order to get my extension cord to plug into the saw, I had to use a pair of pliers to squeeze the shroud back to round. I will say Walmart handled the return with no fuss, even though I had already thrown away the box.
the tensioner bent after very little use. I returned the saw.
