Worx ;) as advertised. This is no timber-cutter's saw, but it does pretty much what the typical homeowner would need. Hefty and solid feeling. It will do whatever a gas saw with comparable specs will do without the hassle of fuel/oil mixing or engine maintenance. The only problem that I have encountered is the length of the extension cord, but I didn't have to drag the stuff very far to get to the saw. Be sure to follow the extension cord length/gauge guide to prevent motor overload. The 4 hp motor uses a lot of juice.
This 18" electric chainsaw has more than enough power to cut 18" logs. I use it with a 3500 watt generator and 100Ft. 12/3 extension cord with. No more pulling my shoulder out of joint trying to start a gas chain saw. The Worx is a winner and worth twice the price..
Have an eighteen inch gas operated, Husquarvarna chainsaw. And, like all two-cycle gas engines – it gets 'quirky' and refuses to start every once in a while (a drop of oil too much or too little in the fuel mixture). However, several days later, it will start instantly. Maintain it exactly according to the manual, and clean it up often. Overall, it is a good chainsaw, but when you are in the middle of felling a tree; it has got to start and be dependable, or, you can be in serious 'trouble'. This is exactly what happened to me. So, I looked into what could be a reliable 'back-up' for my gas chainsaw, and, after doing my homework – the Worx WG 304.1 Eighteen Inch Corded Electric Chainsaw was my choice. Walmart shipped it directly to my home, and it was cutting wood fifteen minutes later out of the box. For an electric chainsaw this baby is impressive. At first was going to use it just to de-limb any felled trees. But after cutting down a twenty-three inch diameter, seventy-five feet tall Sycamore with it – I am now a 'believer' in the capabilities of this chainsaw (see attached pics). It cut through this tree as effortlessly, and, as good as the Husquarvarna would. I used this saw to cut up the entire tree, limbs and trunk. It worked flawlessly. Since I am 71 years old, I let the saw do the work, and, this one works great. The engineering and design of this saw is so 'user-friendly'. It has a plastic sight view for the oil level indicator and automatically feeds the oil to the chain. So, you always know how much cutting oil you have. But, the real kicker is the auto-tension system chain adjustment. Just turn the tension wheel counter clockwise to loosen, then back to clockwise to tighten – so easy! No more carrying Phillips screwdrivers, ratchets, and wrenches. NOT to mention NO mixed two cycle gas. WooHoo! Since this saw pulls almost a full 15 amps, it should be plugged into a 20 amp circuit, which is wired by number 12 gauge copper wire. If you use an extension cord for any distance, it should also be 12 gauge wire and no longer then 100 feet. A 15 amp circuit with 14 gauge wire is 'iffy'. The saw has a built-in safety chain brake, which engaged will not let the saw run. It also has a safety chain stop, which will stop the saw if the chain/bar gets into a bind. The most important thing you must do for your own personal safety is to secure the extension cord to avoid cutting into it with the saw. For safety I keep the extension cord draped over my right shoulder to keep it away from the cutting zone as I move around. You can purchase an extra bar to have on-hand, Oregon 180SDEA041, which is available on-line at Walmart. However, you will have to order the chain, Oregon 91PX063X or Oregon S63 chain on-line at Home Depot. I highly recommend this electric chain saw for homeowners use. It is reliable, powerful, safe, and super-user-friendly.
if only for the extension cord holding you back this saw would be incredible. as a homeowner for 20 years i have slowly switched from gas powered lawn and landscape maintenance equipment to electric.let me tell you this saw {remember a sharp blade makes the difference} doesnt hold back, it has an electric brake that shuts the machine down if engaged which is great because i remember my old gas stihl would still cut if brake on leading to premature wear. Perhaps they have rectified this since i had one, but i was happy to see the worx shut down completely. This saw chewed right threw a 16 inch diameter trunk {pine tree} with very little effort. I will be purchasing a 14 inch worx when my homelite gives out[this is also a very good small pruning saw]for the smaller pruning, i can see this saw getting a iittle heavy after a while. Homeowners dont hesitate or deal with gas[remember maintaining anything gas takes additional time and care] yard maintenance tools anymore or better yet dont get started. If you are in the market for a around the home chainsaw, this is the one for you.
The Worx 18" 15 Amp chain saw was delivered to my house in only 4 days. Having used a small electric chain saw for the last 14 years and a gas powered chain saw for the last 7 years I was excited to get this one. You will need to invest in a 12 gauge extension cord and you should buy a gallon of chain bar oil. In the last week the utility company fell 14 of my 30' Austrian pine trees that were close to the utility line which was a big help to me. All I had to do was to cut up the fallen trees so I could haul them off. My gas chain saw needed a tune up hence my new investment. I am totally please with the Worx. I cut up all the trees and haul most of them off saving saving over a thousand dollars. The chain brake worked good and the fast chain tensioning is great. Learning curves I experience was to check the tension every hour and retension it as needed - if you do so you won't have the chain come off like I did (However the chain goes back on very easily!). Also check the bar oil level ever 1-2 hours. The chainsaw isn't light so you will get tired but I expected this.
I was skeptical about the WORX 18" Electric chainsaw having enough power to cut the 3"x 12" oak timbers that we sell at my shop, but this thing has mucho power; at least as much as a conventional gas powered chainsaw, and at half the cost of a high end gas powered saw.
I was skeptical about getting an electric chainsaw, but I have had bad luck with two different gas ones. They were both powerful enough for my needs, but the engines were a pain to keep running correctly. I was skeptical on electric because I wasn't sure they would have the power I needed. I needed to cut down 2 more 50 ft pine trees. Both with trunks of at least 12" to 18". I cut the first one down and into mutiple pieces a couple of days ago. I was very pleasantly surprised at the power and ease of use and also the ease of the auto tensioning system. Extremely happy with it. I will be removing the second tree this or next weekend. I only ordered a new chain. The old one got dull after cutting the other tree down. I ordered a new one online for around $25 delivered. I wish Walmart would carry it in the stores.
Being a home owner, there are certain things you have to have, a chainsaw is one of them. I like the turn knob, to adjust the tension on the chain. It is a little heavier than I expected. It works great.
Bought 18 inch Worx saw and immediately put it to work taking down 6-60 to 70 foot pines and 6 cedar trees (missing from photos). The saw was a pleasure to operate with great power and lighter than a gas chain saw.
I had several trees down this winter and the Worx chain saw did a great job on taking down the stumps and sectioning them. The trees weren't wider than 8" and with the correct gauge cord (12 gauge) the chainsaw didn't have any power issues. It was extremely simple to set up and operate and was easy to handle while cutting, so you don't need to be an expert to safely operate this tool. One of the downsides of the chainsaw is the fact that it is attached by a cord, which is the drawback to all electric chainsaws so the Worx is no different than any other corded chainsaw. A good quality 100ft 12-gauge extension cord is about $75 which is required if you are working over a large area, so make certain to add that into the final price of the tool. Other reviewers noted that the tool uses a lot of oil and I would agree. The unit comes with a few ounces of oil and after three trees the reservoir was dry, so expect to buy extra oil.
