this is the smoothest pencil i've ever used. zero friction. the matte black color spreads so evenly you can't tell the direction of the pencil stroke. i wish they would release this in different shades.

i was hoping these would be comparable to the generals kimberly 9xxb pencils at a much lower price point. they were not. they were darker than a basic no. 2 pencil, but lighter than 9xxb or charcoal. they are very comprable to an 8b pencil, which at their price is still a great deal, plus the lead is much wider in diameter, about double the core material of a normal pencil. I'm disappointed that it wasn't what i was hoping for, and quite different than how it was advertised, but still a good product. however if you want the blackest and most matte graphite pencil out there, invest in the generals kimberly 9xxb, its worth the extra money. the reason this product is getting 3 stars is that they claim to be matte, when they are anything but. good price for what it is, which is why i didnt give it fewer stars. the two photos show what it looks like reflecting light and not reflecting light. it's quite dark when not reflecting light, but definitely not black.
