Recently, I purchased an expensive accoustic guitar and the company was very direct with their care instructions: keep your instrument between 72 - 77 degrees and keep your humidity between 45 - 55%. Well, me not being one to guess at these things, I bought the P3 P0250 Mini Hygro-Thermometer and it works just fine. Since accuracy is an important concern, I brought the device to a different location and checked it against a much more elaborate measuring system; the results were almost identical. The small size (and it is small) means nothing to me since the Mini Hygro sits in my guitar case. The display is very readable and I've seen similar devices that cost 2 - 3 times more. A great value which I'd recommend to anyone. As far as you cigar afficionados are concerned, the Mini Hygo-Thermometer would work great in your humidor.
Having just purchased a dehumidifier I searched the internet for an instrument that would report on the humidity in my home. I purchased this one based on price. Then I placed it outside for several minutes and compared it's readings with the NOAA site for my zip code, and it was spot on. No complaints at all.
I bought two of these. Read the reviews and it sounded good. Was very surprised when they arrived. It is only a fraction of the size advertised. Specs says it is 5" by 5.5" by .9. It is about 1/5th that size. About 1 inch by 1.5 inches at the most. Very surprised Seems to work fine though. Just have to walk up to it to see it.
If you are looking for something small and compact, this is a good Hygro-Thermometer. It is accurate. I returned it because I found something else that cost $5 less. It has a bigger face but not as accurate as this one. It is also good because it use a watch size battery.
It has helped us maintin the humidity in the house this winter with the humidifier.
I've only had it about 10 days, but it appears to be well made and workng properly. I put it in the refrigerator after I took it out of the package and both the temperature and relatively humidity changed as expected. This wasn't a real calibration but indicated it was sensing properly. I've got it in my gun safe and like it because it is small and doens't take much room but is still readable when I open the door.
I wanted one of these primarily for outside even though this one is more of an indoor. Either way, I did not read the dimensions or did not see them on the page when I ordered it, and when it arrived I was very shocked to see how tiny it is, about 1.5 inches long by 1 inch high... So, if I knew that I would have looked for a larger one! Other than that, it is nice to know how humid it is for a bad hair day!!
I set it next to my home hygro thermometer and the settings were off by 7% with the humidity; quite a difference. I then saw one at another competitors store, bigger and more quality-made, for the same price.
The tiny battery fits poorly in the assigned slot, and the connections did not touch the battery. I had to insert a piece of cardboard to make it work.
Following the printed instructions, the battery was inserted with the + side up. The instrument remained blank. Tried pushing the buttons - no results. I put a new battery in - still no results. From my observation of the battery compartment, I decided that the side contact was not making a connection. I bent the contact to make a connection and the instrument worked. This probably voided the warranty, but it beat the hassle of returning the unit.
