The kit is high quality plastic lumber composite that will last a very long time without rotting away. I like how the boards can be combined in different designs -- square, rectangular, double height, etc. #sweepstakes
Reminder for individuals that haven't used this before, the area needs to be level before you put the product in place otherwise the sections will not meet up properly. Usually leveling is not a big deal unless you have a larger area that you are doing. The material was durable and easy to install. Once shipped (due to the item being on back order at the time) the item arrived undamaged within a couple days. No complaints with this product; material should last many years without much fading.
I added two of these to my four older ones (20-25 years old and still going strong). Convenient and manageable size. So easy to build -- no sawing, drilling or hammering, which is a plus when most of the tools you do have are the garden variety.
This is a great product but I would like the fasteners be a nut and bolt made of plastic as I cut mine to fit the area I used it as edging rather than a rectangular planting bed
I was so happy with this raised bed (given to me for Mother's Day last year) that I saved up and bought another this winter! I love the curved design, so much more pleasing to my eye than the squares and rectangles of most raised beds. And the design creates a mix of large and small (narrow) planting areas. Here in dry, hot west Texas, succulents are king, so I planted some trailing varieties in the narrow side planting spots, reserving the bigger areas for tried-and-true favorites: zinnia, mums, and lantana. Very attractive and easy to maintain raised bed -- I put mine right on top of the grass, added many inches of chopped up leaves, and then put in potting mix. The soil does settle, so I will be refilling each spring, I suspect, but it's very worth it. Highly recommended!
Great product, great concept. Just think the manufacturer / shippers need to streamline their operations so that kits do not go out incomplete. Leaves a bad taste for what seems to be a well designed product.
This raised bed was easy to handle, even for one person working solo. It can be assembled in a variety of shapes, including the straight rectangle in the example. There aren't gaps for soil to leak through or grass to crawl in through. All good. My main issue is that the caps aren't attached to the stakes - they're loose. Unless the stake is perfectly level with the top of the joint - which is difficult to do unless your ground is perfectly level - the caps are basically just sitting on there loose. I keep finding them knocked off by a passing dog or gust of wind. I'm going to have to go back with super glue or something to lock them on. If the stakes flared into a cap at the top, they'd hold the frame to the ground better and I wouldn't have lost one of the caps already.
Overall a great product! Very sturdy material and it looks beautiful. The directions to put it together are difficult to follow so be sure to work with customer service if you have questions.
These are not a wood composite, nor do they look like one. These boards are a very rigid plastic. No they may not splinter, but they will crack. I had one board come to me cracked and missing a large piece of plastic. I found it in the bottom of the box and super glued it back together. In the description, the boards appear to be rounded on the top. They actually have very sharp lines. Just beware, this is a lot money to pay for plastic.
I ordered this raised bed system back in March of 2019 and when it arrived there were several broken pieces. The replacement parts that came eventually were the wrong sizes. Come to find out this system isn't supported anymore - must be because of the terrible quality of the product! The customer service I received from the Vermont locations rectified the situation and I opted for the Ceder beds. A tiny bit more expensive but the quality and value is a WORLD of difference.
