these are good I like to think that they're healthy
I wanted a snack but didn't want candy or chips, and this satisfied my cravings.
This cookie bar tastes great, just like a fresh baked soft cookie. Indulgent, sweet, and good!
Very tasty and fresh.
As a teenager in 1963 I became a juvenile diabetic and quickly learned the 3 essential tools in managing it: insulin, physical activities, and foods. The only aspect that one could truly control was diet (one shot a day, no glucometers invented yet, school, paper route, sports practice, regular meal times). I quickly learned about carbohydrates – in nearly every food we eat – and their differing amounts and “intensities” (from simple sugars through fibers). I had a daily newspaper route after school, which burned up calories pretty fast compared to everything else in the day leading up to it. My last subscriber's house was next to a tiny strip which had a corner variety store and mini-dairy-grocery (“High's”), so as my body's glucose on board had run low at that point I needed a quick fast-acting carbohydrate. But I also rarely had even 25¢ in my pocket. Through trial-and-error, I learned that the Tastykake Oatmeal Raisin Bar perfectly fit the bill!! Fifteen cents; not drippy or sticky while walking; easy to eat only part & fold the cellophane over the remainder for another time; composed almost 100% of carbohydrate-heavy ingredients **but** of 3 different types gave me a greater sense of my body's glucose control: First, whole oats; next the firm gooey that held everything together; lastly the raisins. Each had a somewhat different rate at which they metabolize into glucose that the body can use: presumably the raisins might be fastest, next the oats – both have a higher amount of fiber than do simpler carbs, and thus have slower conversion to glucose than things like bread flour, potatoes, other fresh fruits, etc. I used to guess that the gooey base was higher in fats than those other two, and so was the slowest to metabolize into useable glucose. But Wow! Tasty-sweet, chewy & satisfying, easy to handle, cheap **while** filling in for my disabled pancreatic role of a non-diabetic. I have wished that they reappeared in my local store checkout lines here in Philly, but the public's preferences do change. So I've shifted my Tastykake 15g CHO pocket-handy fave to the great individually wrapped Pecan Swirls from the family pack carton!
Excellent snack or breakfast food. They are soft which makes them a good choice for older adults.
Tastykake always brings the best treats. This one had raisins and makes you feel healthy too!
I buy these all the time, they are delicious...one of my must have snacks
