I am new to the Androids. I have good people helping me learn how to use this and so far I've been able to do everything I want to do. I don't have the problems freezing up that I've read in other reviews but I don't know how long those people are on the net. It is my understanding that all phones do some freezing on the net. I haven't had any problems and love my phone!
i love this phone i have had it for a few weeks and it has froze like twice.....but i just locked it and unlocked it and it was fine. it may have been better if you could turn off the swipe but besides that its like heaven.... the price was a little iffy but its ohk.
I was very hesitant about getting this phone for myself & my daughter. According to the website, it would not work in my area. It uses Sprint towers and not Verizon towers. Sprint just doesn't have a strong tower system where I am. But I spoke to a friend and she said she had really good service in most areas and almost the same phone. So, I took a chance, boy am I glad I did. It talks about freezing up in some other reviews but so far we have not had a problem. We are really enjoying our phones, My husbang wants one now. HOpe this helps in your decision
who ever is thinking about getting this phone get it, this was a great investment and for the price this is a great phone......
I didn't really get a chance to experience the phone, but I have been with Straight Talk for a while and had (ALMOST) no problems up until I purchased this phone. Although I get good service at home and in my neighborhood, this android phone didn't get ANY service within a two mile radius of my home. I had to return and go back to my old phone...bummer. But it seemed like it would have been a nice little phone and if you live somewhere that gets excellent service from most phone companies, it may just be the perfect starter android phone for you!
The only thing I would change about the phone is the memory storage. The phone holds very little before it starts to slow down. Other than that I love the phone and all the functions is has. I would recommend this phone to everyone. They didn't recommend the phone for my area but a friend used theirs at my house with no problems so I went ahead and purchased it. I have three bars all the time and very happy with the service.
This is an entry-level Android phone. Keeping that in mind, it's an excellent phone for the price, considering that a top of the line Android goes for much more than twice the price. Yes, storage is a bit cramped, so put in a 16GB micro SD card. RAM is also cramped - you can't run too many apps at once. It's not a server in a tower, it's an entry level phone. If you want a phone that will run everything, be prepared to spend around $400 and up. The service is reasonable. For less than $45/month (if you buy the 3 month cards), you get unlimited talk and text and reasonably unlimited data. It's the cheapest such plan there is. (And you can use wifi to download as much as you want.) It runs on the Sprint network, so make sure that Sprint gives decent coverage wherever you'll need it. Other than that, you won't find a better Android phone for the price. Freezing? Yes, if you try to run huge apps, or many apps at once. Remember - it's an entry-level phone. But running Mapquest while you're driving works nicely and you can see what the traffic looks like up ahead.
I loved the phone and i thought i loved my Straighttalk phone service too before i got this Android phone. My old phone with Straightalk worked great, everywhere, and i do mean everywhere...drove from Nebraska to Tennessee and to Oregon with no issues. However the Straighttalk folks made a bad deal to get Android... They dont tell you it runs off the Sprint network which is great in big towns but bad where i am and almost non-exsistant on the west coast where i go every year. So after a week i went back to my basic phone so that i would have great coverage with Straighttalk using the Verizion network.
First off, I purchased this for my girlfriend, not for myself. Coming from her cheap Cricket phone, she thinks this Pevail is the greatest thing since colored socks. I have owned an htc EVO for the past 18 months, so I know what a modern Android phone is capable of so I will do the evaluation. SERVICE: Straight talk uses towers from Verizon, att, Sprint & T-mobile, depending on which phone you purchase. The only two Android phones Straight talk offers, the LG and this Samsung Prevail, operate on Sprint towers so their coverage in your area should be taken into account before ordering one of these. I live in Kansas City, which happens to be where Sprint has their headquarters, so reception for us has been great all around the city. We are going to Maui in a few weeks so our luck may not be so good there. PHONE: Even though Sprint has 4G and the Prevail uses Sprint towers, it isn't capable of anything more than 3G speeds. I did internet speed tests around the city and it varied quite a bit but it was on par with the speeds I was getting on my EVO in the same locations. The good: It is an Android phone, capable of downloading and running most apps on the Android market. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate when typing. The screen is bright and clear. The sound quality of the external speaker is clear, with plenty of volume to hear when buried at the bottom of her purse. The price of the phone includes a 2 gigabyte memory card. The headphone jack takes regular headphones that can be found anywhere, not the extra small ones that some modern music-playing phones insist that you use. The bad: Low 2 megapixel camera. My EVO is 8 megapixel and it's 4 year old technology. I might be spoiled with my phone, but even her old Cricket phone was 3.2 megapixel. Also, there is no flash/LED for illuminating what you are taking a picture of. Sunny lit scenes come out great but dimly lit scenes leave a lot to be desired. There is no secondary, front-facing camera for two-way videochat. The processor on this phone can't run and decode flash so websites that are heavily flash based are lost on this phone. There isn't much internal memory so it won't take too many downloaded apps before you run out and have to start transferring them over to the memory card that it came with. This phone does not have a WiFi hotspot ability, which means if you want this phone to supply internet access to your laptop, you will have to hook it up directly with the usb cord and use a market app like pda-net or Klink. Note: I bought the combo pack which is only sold at Walmart.com and not available in the stores. It included a semi-clear case in addition to the phone for the same price as buying the phone alone. The description of the case says it's clear-gel which led me to believe it was soft and squishy like a silicone skin... it wasn't. It was hard and smooth with enough flexibility to get it over the phone. Walmart.com charges you shipping to ship it to your home as well as your state's sales tax, so no savings there. In hindsight, I would have just bought the phone in the store and bought a pink silicone skin from eBay to fit it. All in all, I can't say I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. The $45 monthly cost can't be beat and the phone, taxes and shipping added up to right at $150. Would I be happy with this phone myself? No, but I'm a bit of a tech snob. I was willing to pay out over $600 for my EVO and pay a $80/month Sprint bill to get what I want. Would any of my friends be happy with this phone? Yes; I can think of a dozen of them that would absolutely love this phone.
After constant freezes I finally returned it after two days. I upgraded the SD card, updated the software, and even used an app killer to reduce the work load on the phone. Even after shutting down all apps and live wall papers it still managed to lock up after 3 hours. Maybe I just got bad luck with this purchase, but it looks like this phone has many bad reviews already if you look at the Galaxy Precent without the bonus gel skin. I exchanged the Galaxy for an LG Optimus Q and so far I have had no issues.
