I can do everything I want to do with a smart phone except video conference (No front facing camera so no Skype or OOVOO, etc.) but I knew that when I purchased it. I can still call folks and I'm pretty sure I can still use ooVoo or skype in just the voice mode if I want to. So - for the money, I would do it again. I've also found the Straight-talk service to be quite reliable so far and a wonderful savings over a contract phone.
After too long of a time, Straight Talk has finally moved out of the dark ages and has begun to offer Android phones with the more current Android OS: 4.0 vs. 2.3 on most of their other phones. That being said this phone is an excellent phone. First, it works on the Verizon network and works well. Reception is excellent, call quality/clarity is crisp and clear. 3G is pretty decent on Verizon but don't expect anything near 4G LTE speeds. For having an 800mhz processor this phone responds very well-it's snappy and responsive with no lags. The screen is bright and gorgeous. If you're wondering how much memory it has to store apps the answer is 2.75GB which is a lot. It also has the capacity for up to 32GB external SD CARD storage (for photos and music, etc). Battery life is much better than expected. The rear facing 3MP camera is decent but is missing a flash. There is no front facing camera. It utilizes the Google Play App Store FYI. Setup was a breeze. Other features include picture caller ID and the ability to respond to an incoming call with a text message much like the iPhone 5. Voice commands work well on this phone too. All in all, coming from a smartphone geek, I rate this phone an A! Simply the best Android 4.0 phone Straight Talk has to offer. You can't go wrong especially for $99!!
Overall, we are very happy with this phone. One glitch so far: about half of our contacts disappeared a day or two after entering, and they were not in Gmail, either. Therefore, I recommend backing up using the Export function in Gmail. Also, if you have very many Contacts, as we did, it's much easier to enter them using Gmail, since the Sync function works very well.
Definately saving money by going with Straight Talk. The phone is pretty good, moves me into a more modern communication device. Upgade from the flip phone Tracfone, I know same company. We ported a landline to the new Samsung Galaxy Centura and by buying 180 days of service at a time it comes out to less than $42 a month before tax. Saving about $10 a month over the landline. In my area it hooks up with Verizon, great coverage here in the 802 and all along the northeast. Does suck up the battery power if you use it a lot, but everone I know has the same issue with smartphones.
This phone has definitely met my expectations. Set up was easy. I have been able to make calls, send texts, and get on the web. This is an android phone, and came with gmail, chrome browser, good music player, YouTube, Google maps, and more already installed. I was able to download other aps through the Google ap store. The touch screen is very responsive. The phone works fast. The internal memory space is small, so I installed a micro SD card to hold my music and that has worked out great for me. I'm really happy with this purchase. It was my first smart phone, and is a great starter smart phone for someone like me.
When I first saw this phone I thought it was a great value at $99.99 with a newer version of android and a nice size touch screen. Also Samsung usually makes good phones. I checked the reviews and did notice a few that mentioned the time resetting on them, well I thought that was just a bad batch, was I wrong. It seems like many people when you search on the internet have this same problem and it did it to me. After about a day the time would reset 6 hours back, I tried resetting it, turning off the sync with network, removing the battery, but nothing fixed this issue. If you plan on using this phone as an ALARM or as a WATCH to know what the current TIME is, I would not suggest it. A feature this simple should work problem-free. There are several other nice choices such as the LG L40G phone which has been problem-free for me!!
This phone comes on as one of the best bets at the entry level of Android smartphones. Decent processing power, Android 4.xx OS, Verizon Wireless coverage and unusually good battery life as a bonus. Even the camera works well. I've always had high-end Android phones, but when I switched to Straight Talk I could not afford a high-end phone. It does the job well... except for a couple of issues. First up, there is no LED to indicate a missed call. Oh, they appear to be there - but they are not functional on this model. The music player has unusually poor audio quality when used with decent headphones, which may be a minor issue to many, a major issue to others. But what kills this phone is reliability. Between myself and family, we have purchased 3 of these phones. 2 of them failed. One within 2 days, the other started to go at the 3 week point. These are all phones used by adults who take care of items. Not a good track record. At this point, while I recommended 2 of the 3 phones purchased (mine is one that is failing now), I would not recommend this to a friend.
I thought this phone would be a great new addition, but I was sadly mistaken. Though this is a very nice looking phone and has wonderful features, along with a nice big screen and voice to text, the functioning of this phone is not rateable. First and foremost this phone cannot keep time. After using this phone for a week, I had to reset the time over 3 times. It also disconnects itself from the Straight Talk service and declares itself disconnected. This happened at least once a day so it is not dependable for use. I thought it was simply a malfunction in one particular phone, but after reading the reviews it is apparent this phone has had several others with the same complaints. The other issue is it does not work well in cold climates. If it is used outdoors below 40 degrees the numbers and other screen functions do not react to touch. I will be purchasing a phone with an alternative keyboard to avoid this issue as I live in a cold climate. The other issue I have with this phone is the fact that I had to go online for over 20 minutes to find a source that knew the trick to finding the icon for the talk to text feature. It is located on the gear sprocket on the keypad after it is held down and touched twice to reveal the microphone just in case you need to know this. I will not recommend this phone and it is going back to the store tomorrow.
This is by far the worst phone and service I've ever had. I would take my old Razr phone over this piece of junk! You want data? Forget about it! Data does not work unless you have wifi. Have wifi? The phone freezes and you have to turn it off and back on again. System overload!!!!! I thought it would be nice to check email and have Google Maps. Nope. Maps will only open if you have wifi and then it still struggles to find your location. Camera is horrible. I am taking this back and getting a flip phone.
Doesn't keep track of time. It will randomly change time on you so don't count on setting an alarm on it. Even after doing the android update (which is another problem) which says it fixes it. You have to factory reset the device each time there's an update for it. Has a hard time staying connected to any network, even if you're standing right next to your wireless router, it'll drop the signal. Debugging mode doesn't work so good luck trying to connect it to your PC besides to charge it. Don't bother calling either StraightTalk or Samsung about it cause one will tell you to call the other to fix it.
