One of my favorite quilts is a tilted nine patch. I make nine patches out of 5" squares, then cut them into four pieces. I use the 6.5" square die to make these more accurate. Lovely, fun, and easy. The 6.5" square is also good for squares set on the diagonal.
My teenaged daughter was 'bored' the other day so I told her to go make something. 'Like what?' was the reply... I gave her my cutter and this die and she picked some flannels from my stash. Showed her how to do it and she cut enough for a baby blanket and more. All perfect except the stack she sent trough folds first, those shifted (I always run folds perpendicular to the rollers and it seems to work best) I just hope she has as much fun sewing the blanket as she did cutting the squares...
This is a great size square for embroidery. Most of my embroidery designs are 4x4 inches which fit perfect in this square. I just cut a bunch of squares. I plan to embroider my library of 4X4 designs on them to create a visual reference design book. The accuquilt is addicting.
I used this die to cut batting for a 8 1/2" rag square die. Batting fit right in to sandwich the squares. Sewed a decorative stitch as an "x" on the square. it was quilted and ready to sew the together!!!!! Highly recommend buying this and the rag square die together to make your rag quilt.
WOW!!! My scrap pile is going to be a thing of the past in nothing flat! I love the versatility of this die. Make a really fast baby quilt using this or combine it with the 1/2 square 6.5" or other dies in the 12" assortment pack. I am just going crazy thinking of all the possiblilities. Gotta GO! Time to bet back to cutting....haha
I like this die because the squares are large but not too oversized. I did a fairly simple baby quilt using two colors of flannel and alternated between the two. With the die and such a simple pattern, the quilt can be completed relatively quickly. Plus, you can make so many 6" blocks with the other shapes- it is very versatile.
I couldn't wait until I received this die. I have used it for making lovely sized patchwork cushion covers for the drawing room. I used four separate contrasting colour cuts for the cushion cover, one I made with alternating colours on front and back, the other cushions I used flowered fabric for the 4 fronts and plain material for the backs. This die is very, very versatile and would recommend to beginners especially.
Using this die has really sped up my quilting, and it's so much fun! Even if you have to snip a few threads, once and a while, that didn't get cut. You can not just cut out a quilt, but sew it together and quilt it in one day. At the dentist's office, I was reading a quilting book. One of the ladies asked me if I had ever actually made one? I said yes. She wanted to know how long it took and I said, " About half a day." She couldn't believe that was possible, but with this die it is. Adding a patchwork baking to a baby quilt is a snap also, and really makes the quilt extra special!
I do wish there were two squares on the die cutter i got but I am happy to have have one. I have to say that I wrote in a concern about my die cutters and the residue left behind. I got a very quick answer to my question and information on how tp make my cutters last longer. Thank you for your help.
great die- easy to use and cuts a perfect square- one small problem which is why I am only giving the product 4 stars- the blades for the square are placed "catty-cornered" on the die so when i tried to cut a striped fabric the stripes were off kilter. I easily rectified this by putting the fabric on an angle too ( i lined the blades up with the selvage) It worked perfectly but I was only able to cut one square at a time to ensure accuracy. Still much faster and more accurate than a rotary cutter, and for non linear fabric the blade placement is not an issue. I was able to cut an entire quilt top in a few hours.
