I love stars. Any kind of star catches my attention in quilting, so when I saw the Blazing Star by Eleanor Burns I had to have it. When I received the die I was a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to sew the block correctly or get the points of the star correct. But to my amazement this star was very easy to put together and I absolutely love it!! If you love stars as I do...you have to add this to your die collection.
This is a block that I never would have attempted on my own. However, I am seeing success right away. Great directions and video from Eleanor Burns makes this block even easier. I am in the middle of a red, white and blue Quilt of Valor and planning the next one.
This is a fun to use die that can make beautiful quilts, wallhangings, table runners and more. Easy to use, cut and sew. Trick is picking fabrics that create contrast to make this spectacular star design blaze. I also highly encourage, before you cut your fabric, take a few minutes to watch Eleanor Burns' video for this die. There are some great tips for fabric placement, to help you avoid potential scrap issues. SewCalGal www.sewcalgal.blogspot.com
I love the design of this block. I don’t like saving the card stock pattern instructions that come with the block, so I always go to the page the block is on, on the web site, then click on “assembly instructions”. There is the same wonderful info that comes on the packaging with the die when you get it, only this one is digital. I save it to a subdirectory in my cloud so that I can look at it whenever I want. The pieces for the pattern are sewn together with all straight, 1/4”, normal seams, and there are only four of those for each pattern. To make the whole finished block, you sew four quadrant blocks together, which is another easy 1/4” seam. It takes three of those easy 1/4” straight seams to assemble the four quadrant blocks into a completed full size Blazing Star block. It could not be any easier. I highly recommend that you follow the assembly instructions to have the easiest time sewing it together. Try it, you’ll like it!
One of your very best 'pieced' block dies. I've made several quilts with this one (wall hanging, table topper, crib quilt) and will make more (another one already cut of yummy Christmas fabrics). Easy to use (but wish I'd bought it after you did the two color foam!) and so impressive when done. Great bargain as I will use over and over again. Looks like a different quilt each time due to fabric choices!! Fantastic!
Finally one die to make one block. Yeah. I got mine in the mail tonite and when the matt item number 55111 becomes available I will get to work on this block. I would like to see more dies that make one complete quilt block. It saves time and money in the overall. And we don't have to use 2 or 3 dies for one quilt blok. Hopefully there will be more one dies making one block available in the future.
Elenor Burns has done it again! This block goes together simply and easily. This does not waste fabric. You have to watch a little and keep your pieces organized, but other than that, wonderful die, wonderful products--several free download patterns for this one also. Thanks Accuquilt.
I used this BOB for the first time recently. I’ve been a quilter for about 40 years and I’ll admit I didn’t read the instructions before I made my first block. Oops! Fabrics need to be right side up! It didn’t matter for me as I was making a bunch of blocks to exchange with fellow quilters in a block exchange, but if I was making a quilt, I’d have been surprised when my blocks turned out to be opposites from each other! I love the block. It looks great… dry dimensional!
I was always intimidated by this square. Finally, I bit the bullet and bought the die. I am so glad I did. Not only did the die make it easier, but the instructions on piecing the pieces together were pretty easy for this novice sewer to follow and the result was something I take pride. Because the pieces are close in shape, I recommend marking the die with the letter of the shape before starting to cut so when you lift them off, you know which piece is which. I also recommend not doing a fan fold of the fabric. Otherwise, good instructions and great die.
I love the black is very beautiful it’s also disappointing that you have to track down the assembly instructions and they don’t come with the purchase of the block on board. The instruction videos must be watched several times prior to attempting to even cut the material and I recommend starting with scraps. Once you locate all the needed info and watch video then block is beautiful- just feel I spend a lot on dies and that they should all come with detailed instructions
