I love how my Brother sewing machine can do so many stitches and it came with a quilting foot plus many other features. I have tried the monograms and love the way that you set on the machine to which letters or numbers you want and after programming all you have to do is sew and it does the rest. The walking foot that came with the machine (for quilts) can be used for heavy duty sewing and if have layers it is really great; like sewing hot pads. I can not say enough about this machine it has 99 different stitches and an auto bobbing winder. With the bobbin you can use two ways, one with the peddle and the other without. I am learning as I go which is the most fun part. I would recommend this machine to anyone that would love to learn or is experienced.
I'd first bought the next Brother down from this one, hated it, got confused and returned it a couple days later. I never thought I'd say this but after years of sewing this computerized little guy turned out to be SO easy to use . I've tried "computerized" machines and taken them back every time and I'd even cancelled this one but it came here anyways. For kicks I set it up, watched the DVD which lasts about a minute because seriously, that's all the instruction you'll need and I got down to business. I'm not sending it back. The big sturdy table pops off if you don't want it but boy is it handy when I made tab top curtains and Each tab had to have Velcro sewn on, ALL 64 of them making a total of 128 one inch pieces to sew on! That projects been in a plastic bag because of what a pain it was to do but with this I just zipped through it without a single swear word or a single pin. There's also a ruler w/markings right on the table in front of you in nice bold print, not white on white raised crp. The LCD display is Large, clear and back lit. The sewing light at the needle is worthless like most machines so get a goose neck lamp, no deal breaker. And I can actually change stitches and stuff with a beep, beep done instead of a beep, beep, Now what, it's not doing it wth! Doesn't shake my table, you can pick the speed with a slide of the knob so if you're new or teaching kids how to sew the machine will only sew at the slower speed you choose no matter how hard you stomp down on the pedal. Twin needle sewing a breeze also. And thanks to the DVD showing in slow mo how to use the needle threader I Now use it every time. Turns out I've been doing it totally wrong for years so I couldn't use one. No jamming problems and great job on the knits I love to sew. Overall this machine a Lot better and easier than I ever thought it would be and well worth the money. One note, the pedal is less responsive than other pedals so keep that in mind if you go from sewing with this to using your serger. Yikes!
Love this sewing machine. It is lightweight and has so many stitches. Love the way you can stitch slow or fast. Getting use to the machine threading the needle and love the thread cutter. My old machin was 30 years old and broke so I decided to invest in a new one. Glad I did.
This machine is light weight and easy to move around. My old machine was really heavy. Love all the extra sewing features. I also have the care plan on this for 4 years. Anything goes wrong it will be fixed or replaced. So far it works great and I am enjoying making a quilt with nice designs.
This is my first Brother machine, and I love it. I'm still learning how to use all the features but so far it's great and really easy to use to my surprise. I bought it because I love to quilt. I highly recommend this product to people who are beginners or experienced who loves to sew
The upper part of the machine threads easily and, when you get the hang of the needle threader. The bobbin just drops in. Winding a bobbin is easy and quick. The electronics allow a wide adjustment and tweaking of all the included stitches. The machine came with a wide variety of presser feet. The machine indicates which foot to use for the selected stitch. It's a great machine.
I purchased this machine to really see what the "bottom line" Brother computerized machines could do and how they stand up to use. IF people would just read the manual and watch the videos and use the helps Brother provides, I believe there would be fewer negative reviews. I have a couple of much more expensive machines, and this is now a backup. I have sewn a complete sampler of all the stitches and tried the lettering and sewed up a quilted greeting card for Christmas through batting, fabric and heavy paper. This machine has performed extremely well. Yes, it is a bit light, and yes, the plastic is plastic, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I can pick this up and use it whenever I need it! I have the Brother SE400 as well, and wanted a sewing only inexpensive Brother. I would recommend this to any sewer to have and to learn on IF you read the manual and pay attention to what you are doing. TIP - HOLD THE THREADS EACH TOME YOU START A SEAM. That will negate the thread nesting problem on this and many many other models and makes of machines - computerized or mechanical. All in all this machine sews a lovely straight seam, and tight well formed stitches. I am impressed!!!!
I love this machine!! The instruction guide is a little hard to understand but the instructional DVD is AWESOME. Step by step guide explains everything so clearly and you can pause it to do it on your machine. Easy to use and learn. I would recommend this machine.
I am posting this review as part of my entry in Walmart's Holiday Sewing Contest. I have owned this machine for a while now (over 1 year) and I love it. The built in stitches make life a little easier when working on any project especially baby quilts. The built in fonts also make monogramming very easy. I love the table as it provides a bigger work surface. I included 2 pictures of a messenger bag I just completed for my niece using a McCalls pattern. This machine had no issues with the suede material I used and when there were several layers that needed to be sewn together......no problem. I have been sewing for 15+ years and like this machine and teaching sewing to others on it has been a breeze.
I use the sewing machine daily for my business and it performs well. It somethings has it hiccups in the bobbin area, the thread would catch around the mechanism, but not often, just have to check needle placement. I like the self threading, but I prefer the self threading on my other brother machine. It can sew through multiple layers as long as you take your time. Overall it is is a great machine for beginners and advanced users.
