I did not expect to like this machine so much so I was pleasantly surprised. It has many bells and whistles that you would not expect on a machine at this price point like the auto needle threader (works better than the ones on my two high end machines) a knee lift, and a walking foot and fmq foot included . It sews like a dream and is quiet and stable. very satisfied. I was looking for a light weight machine to take to sewing classes because my high end machines are quite heavy, now I find I use it all the time.
I love my Brother 420 Runway Sewing Machine. It is so easy to operate and the feature of the threading and cutting your thread is the most wonderful invention ever made. Beginners in sewing should have no problems with this machine. There is one thing which my husband did for me and that is in one of the brushes I have in my other Brother machine, he drilled a small hole so I could hold the needle I wanted to replace without using my fingers which were slippery at times and now it is so nice an easy to do. I suggest Brother should do this to all of their brushes. I have had other expensive well known machines and nothing beats the Brother's. If your looking for a machine that does it all, then be sure you select a Brother above all others. "I am posting this review as part of my entry in Walmart's Sewing Contest." Although I sew garments, bags, and other home dec items, I spend most of my sewing time making quilts. What most attracted me to this machine was features like a knee lift, drop feed dogs for free motion quilting, needle threader, thread cutter and the alphabet fonts for making quilt labels. I found this machine to be fast, quiet and able to handle the thick quilts that I work on. This machine is easy to thread. It makes beautiful buttonholes and decorative stitches. The Brother PC-420PRW has almost 300 stitches to choose from and comes with a lot of accessory presser feet including a walking foot so that just makes it a more incredible value. I have recommended this machine to many of my friends.
I was surprised, for this machine is very different from others I have used. yet the directions are very easy to follow. I enjoy using all the different decorating stitches. looking forward to many hours of sewing on my 294-stitch Project Runway Sewing Machine
I upgraded to this machine from my mother's circa 1970 Kenmore. Love it! I cannot get used to push button start stop but thankfully it also came with a foot pedal. Great with knits and wovens.
I purchased this product to make santa bags for my children and grandchildren for Christmas. I knew that, since I had chosen very difficult fabrics and have not done any sewing for over 40 years, I would need a machine that was extremely versatile and, hopefully, user-friendly. I was not disappointed on either count. The instructions are very well written; the machine itself has the threading and bobbin sequence numbered and, for most people, would be foolproof. My sister and I have had a lot of laughs over my novice attempts but the machine itself is a true pro. My daughter can't wait to get her hands on it. I would recommend this machine to anyone who sews, regardless of their expertise, without hesitation. The number of features and ease of use are just short of miraculous. Happy Sewing!!!
I'd purchased a cheaper sewing machine during Christmas and was not at all satisfied with it. This Brother 294 has the simple needle threader, thread cutter, and you can program it to keep the needle lowered when you stop the machine. There is also a setting for sewing speed. There is all the difference in the world in the performance. I love it. I've already made a rag quilt using this machine.
I bought a Brother Sewing Machine for daughter for Christmas and spent a wonderful weekend teaching her how to sew. After using her machine, I was convinced it was time for me to replace the old machines. Love my new machine! It is very quiet and stiches are straight and even. Probably has more stitch choices than I will ever need, but then you never know:) Since I don't have to fight with the old machine any more, I bet I will enjoy sewing much more and do more projects.
I love this machine, I have several other Brother machines, embroidery and sewing and embroidery machines, and will only buy Brother. This is a real heavyweight machine and sews like a dream.
Wife was using an ancient Singer, she loves this new Brother and all it does for her! It cuts the thread, threads the needle and more with a push of a button. The stitches are amazing and she can even design her own stitches.
