I have been using my machine for hours at a time day after day. It's a great work horse and value for the money. It's easy and quick to set up. I bought the Brother PED Basic to transfer designs from computer to card, I haven't tried using the USB port on this machine. I also love that you can save designs on this machine. Other great features are that it alerts you when bobbin thread and spool threads are running out.
I had the machine up and running within 30-minutes! It is SO easy to use! The machine basically works itself. Easy threading - in fact - has an automatic threader which is a plus for me! I love the fact that I can download a design onto my USB Drive and pop it in the machine. I don't have to have a computer right next to it which is great! Hooping definitely takes practice - and I did end up purchasing a smaller 4x4 hoop just for smaller areas/items that I wanted to embroider such as collars, cuffs, ribbons, etc. The machine comes with the 5x7 hoop and I think it is the perfect size for just about anything! I even monogrammed a duffle bag! I did buy Sulky Embroidery Thread because I had read it was the best. I have not experienced any breaks or problems with the thread so far. It looks really nice too even though it is a little more expensive. I am still learning about stabilizers but I did purchase a light weight cut away, a medium weight cut away, and a water soluble stabilizer just to experiment The only thing I would add - is at least a software program to create monograms and edit designs. Yes, there are software programs out there but as a newbie, it has been overwhelming trying all the demos and then trying to decide. Plus they are ALL expensive! I feel that Brother could at least offer one with this machine - it doesn't have to be a Professional software - just one that would allow the creating and editing. I am a mother of 3 and I am a beginner -- this is my first embroidery machine and I did alot of research before deciding on this one.
Brother PE770, it does a beautiful job with embroidery, appliqué, in the 5inch x7inch hoop came with the package. I can easily transfer my designs created on my computer using USB memory stick. The LCD display screen is easy to read and edit the design, I can view all 136 built-in embroidery designs and 6 letting fonts without my glasses. Also this machine has auto thread cutter and easy threading of both top thread and bobbin, it saves me a lot of time to complete my embroidery project. I believe it is a great embroidery machine.
I have two Viking sewing/embroidery machines and bought this one as a back up when I thought one was damaged beyond repair. Like having an embroidery only machine as I don't have to adjust the tensions so much. The Brother PE770 is not as fast as the other two but fast enough and has a generous 5X7 embroidery field. Have seen nothing but good reviews for this machine.
Love this machine, enjoying all of the preloaded designs and purchased applique designs off the internet. I would recommend this machine for a beginner, it is very easy to set up and the directions are written out very well. I have used it almost everyday since I picked it up (about two weeks ago) and have had no problems with it at all. You won't be sorry you purchased it, I know I'm not.
I just recently purchased this machine after owning a brother Lb-6800 and this machine is amazing. I have had no issues and even created the cutest Christmas shirt for my daughter. I will and will contine to recommend this machine to anybody!
What a workhorse! It's a little picky on brand of thread it likes, surprisingly it loves Coats and Clark which Walmart started to carry! love that!!! So happy the sewing section is back.
I have never sewed or done anything with a machine before in my life. I recently had a baby girl and seeing all the cute appliqued and embroidered clothing for so expensive made me want to get a machine and try to make some things myself. I have played around on it quite a bit so far and love how easy it is. The only negative thing is they don't tell you that you have to get a brother brand usb card to import images. I tried other brands of usb cards and none worked.
I am posting this review as part of my entry in Walmart's Fall Sewing Contest. I am reviewing the Brother PE770 Computerized Embroidery Machine with 5 x 7" Hoop Size. Overall I really like this machine. I purchased this machine so that I could make some fun crafts for my son as well as make some to sell at the local craft fair. The setup on this machine was pretty basic and didn't take long to get it all set up. The only complaint I have with the setup is how the hoop is attached to the machine. You have to use a little force to get the hoop locked onto the embroidery area and I am afraid it might not hold up well after using it numerous times. I started out sewing some finger puppets from an outside pattern. Once I figured out the correct format to use for this machine, I downloaded the pattern onto my flash drive and it worked great. The hoop size on this machine is great for personal use but I feel a bigger hoop would work much better for my needs. I was only able to fit 2 finger puppets on the hoop at a time. Also,in order to sew things more quickly, it is best to use embroidery software that allows you to change the stich order so that you can sew more than one thing at a time. I ended up using a free trial through sew what pro and it worked great. One problem I ran into with this machine is the orientation of the thread on the spool. Unfortunately my thread kept getting wrapped around the spool holder or getting caught and causing the needle to break. I went through 4 needles before I could figure out what worked best. I found that the cap to hold the spool on tight was causing the issue. Once I stopped using the cap, the thread came off the spool much smoother and I haven't broken a needle since. I think a vertical spool holder would work much better than the horizontal holder. The automatic threading on this machine is wonderful! With as many thread changes as I had to make on my finger puppets, it was nice to just automatically thread the needle after each thread change. Once I got the feel for this machine, my projects started sewing out quickly. I was able to sew 2 finger puppets in about 30 min. Overall I think this is a great machine, I am giving it only 4 stars because of the trouble I had with the thread and the broken needles but I highly recommend this machine.
OK let me start by saying that I love Brother machines. My sewing machine is Brother and my old embroidery machine is a PE-150. I bought it used from a local authorized dealer. It had been reconditioned & works perfectly...still after 3 years. However, I have been craving the PE770 for a couple of years because it offers a 5x7 hoop size. I am SO disappointed. To summarize: BAD: It is my opinion that this machine should have been PERFECT in every single way straight out of the box. There should be no adjustments, no unscrewing or messing with bobbin cases. It's direct from the factory. It's never been used. It should be PERFECT. It was not. The thread tension is a real hassle. I have never seen a frustrating process in my life. Click here, click there, change this, change that, adjust this, adjust that. If this happens, try this or that. WHAT? It's BRAND NEW. No adjustments should be required. My PE150 has a little dial like a regular sewing machine. Set it and forget it. I did everything the manual says. I looked at multiple You Tubes about the issue. The white bobbin thread came through to the top of multiple test projects. I tried cards, built-in designs, etc. Results were the same. There was more white bobbin thread showing than colored thread. I tested on muslin and one of my good hand towel. Bad news. I have read numerous forums and reviews talking about this issue. Brother needs to look at this and fix it. The screen could be larger. Too much clicking to find anything. This technology has not changed since the PE150. It looks the same - actually the PE150 is easier to read than the PE770. For the $$$, it could be improved. The bobbin winder was not that great. The little directions printed on the machine help but the bobbin did not fill properly and I only got about a half a bobbin. I used the bobbin that was IN the bobbin case of the PE770 so I used the correct size. I used white Brother bobbin thread...and still...the bobbin itself stopped but the screen kept saying "winding" and did not stop. So that was also funky and felt defective. It's also huge. It takes up 10% more space than the PE150. The auto-threader was pretty cool & worked every time I tried it. But the space to get at the thread from the back of the needle is clumsy. The space that I have to see what I'm doing is very low because the upper body of the machine is large. It was not comfortable for me. I was bending & twisting my neck trying to get at the thread after it comes through the needle...and ended up using my sewing tweezers to grab ahold of it from the back. Everything around the needle seems to be just too tight of a space. GOOD: The stitch speed is great. There are actually 2 speeds - 650 and 350. It's relatively quiet. Auto-threader did work. Set up was easy: it literally took me 10 minutes. The machine comes packed in 2 separate pieces. Just snap them together. In the end, unfortunately, the PE770 did not live up to the hype. It is NOT a good value at almost $600, even with Walmart's great deal. I'm going to be returning it & going back to my trusty PE150. I will not have 5x7 design space but I can live with that if I don't have to fight with thread tension & I get a nice finished project.
