This is the best sewing machine ever ... I've owned a couple of regular sewing machines. I absolutely love all the different stitches it does and the monogramming is an added bonus. As long as you follow the instructions and use the recomended foot for the stitch that your doing you won't have the problems of breaking needles. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and I love it will update if I start having problems.
I was, at first, put off by how light weight this machine is. I sew for a living and my expensive Viking machine is broken. I figured I would go ahead and buy a "backup" machine instead of take on expensive repairs. Once I put this on the table and fired it up, I was amazed at how solid and stable it is. The motor has a good hum to it and the 3-speed button allows me to slow it down for my ruffler, but speed it back up for a more production speed. The placement of the "backstitch" and "needle up/down" buttons was very well thought out. It is very easy to reach and touch them while still holding fabric in place. I would say Brother gets an A+ for ergonomics. I have now bonded with a machine that I didn't think would pan out. I was wrong. This one is a keeper. I went ahead and got the 3-year extended warranty for $19...a small price to pay for a little insurance. The drawback to the newer machines are the plastic parts inside. That would be why the 3-year warranty is a good idea :-)
I am a quilter, and I also make other items like fabric lanyards, fabric tote bags, Kindle cases, etc for my etsy shop. I needed an upgrade from the Brother machine that I already had. I chose this one because it had some great stitches & the price was right for me. I LOVE it. I made sure to go through the manual before using it...and when I used it for the first time - it worked like a dream. I have been sewing nearly non-stop for 4 days now! :-) I love the stitch choices & it is very quiet and easy to use. I have had absolutely no problems!
For the money this sewing machine cost. It is the best that I found. It so far does the jobs that I want to do. I priced other machines with most of the same features and found that this machine is a much better machine, some of the machines I looked at cost as much as a good used car had features on them that most of us in every day use would never use. So why spend that kind of money on something that you more than likely would ever use. I really like the Brother SQ9050.
I am a novice when it comes to sewing. I never thought I could sew, until I bought this machine! It is so easy to use and I love, love, LOVE this machine. I have only had the machine a week and I've already made a quilt! It's unbelievably easy to use. I read all of the reviews on here before buying the machine and wanted to come back and write my own review to tell the next consumer that I too, highly recommend this machine.
my boyfriend spent weeks trying to get a hold of this machine and he finally got it and gave it to me early for Christmas. this is the BEST sewing machine i have ever used!! it's so easy and i love the accessories it comes with. i am so happy with it i just cannot even explain!
This is the first Brother I have owned. So far so good. I have been sewing for 40 years and am impressed with the features I have tried. I do wish the light above the needle was brighter, dimmer than what I am used to. Nice not having to hold my bobbin thread when I start sewing and that I can program it for needle up or down when I stop each time.
A few weeks ago my husband purchased this sewing machine for me. It's my first machine, and it's been a dream! I've made a pillowcase, a purse, and I'm currently working on a set of Christmas ornaments. I've tried each of the decorative stitches, used the monograming font (small and simple, perfect for quilt labels or monograming pockets, collars, or cuffs), and it's performed flawlessly. Easy to thread, and easy to load the bobbin. The extension table and wide assortment of included feet makes this a great bargain! I've got so many projects planned....
I bought this machine because of its features and light weight. I need something to carry to classes and that I can use in our motorhome. Its Fonts are a nice bonus. It would be a great machine to learn or teach one to sew, also. I test sampled all of the stitches and found them to be accurate. Anyone who has trouble with this machine may need coaching on fabrics, stabilizers, etc. I love my little Brother.
This seems to be a really good sewing machine of average value. I bought it for my wife for Christmas because her Singer of 31 years has died. She likes this Brother for the most part. But I had to return it because the clearance from the needle to the machine (the throat) is half the distance and height of her old Singer. This seems to be a trend with sewing machines now. My wife loves creating and sewing baby blankets and quilts. The clearance makes it really tough for her to maneuver her blankets and quilts. It looks like we'll have to step up $$$$ to a quilting machine and she feels she doesn't need all those features. She liked the way this Brother 9050 sewed and it was really quiet compared to her old Singer. The automatic threader was more trouble than threading the machine manually, but she admits she might need more time learning how to do it. I was disappointed in the font. It's so small (about 3/8") it's virtually useless and it's just a plain block style font. Although this seems to be a good machine, we were very disappointed in the lack of clearance in the throat and find the uses of the machine not very versatile for many different types of sewing projects!
