wow - movement and games in one device!

This watch is like a combo of the '90's digital pets (remember them??) and a fitness tracker for kids! It encourages kids to get moving and rewards them with points based on their activity. It has an energy bar around the outer edge of the screen that moves as actions and motions are detected by the band's accelerometer. When they reach certain goals they earn rewards that can be used to unlock features on the band. It is designed for kids 4 to 7 years old. After I connected to my LeapFrog Connect account my grandson could not wait to put the watch on and we were able to start using it in minutes! The band is pretty easy to understand and he didn't need me showing him what to do. It is rather large and chunky and took a little getting used to at first but after a few minutes he was fine with it. 8 personalized virtual pets (a dog, monkey, panda, cat, dragon, robot, penguin, or unicorn) "live" in the band to help guide him through challenges. Games include Pet Chef (collect the healthy food items), Pet Boogie (a dancing game), and Pet Salon (teaching proper hygiene) that provide ways for him to communicate with his pets and learn about healthy living. There are 14 preloaded challenges that tell kids to "pop like popcorn," "walk like a crab," and "wiggle like a worm" with the accelerometer tracking their every move. More challenges can be downloaded from the LeapFrog Connect app. We can then track his activity through an accompanying app to see how active he is at any point. He would get really excited playing the games and even more excited when he got rewarded and loved telling everyone what he did. I love knowing that he had something to do and was able to achieve it all on his own! The animated graphics are very nice and the voice is clear and easy for him to understand. I love that the games reinforce healthy food options during game play as well as Gross Motor Skills and Health & Hygiene- the same things we try to teach him but the watch and his pets get much better results from him!

Son Loves This Leapfrog Band.......

I received this green leapfrog band to do a review. I got the leapfrog band just in time for my son birthday and he loves everything about the leapfrog band. My son just turned seven years old this month and is very active. He likes the fact its a watch, it has a touch screen and camara on the watch. He enjoys taking care of his pet, feeding his pet, earning prizes, watching his pet do things and playing with his pet. The different pets are a dog, panda, cat, monkey, robot, dragon, unicorn, or penguin. They do activities like "hop like a bunny", "leap like a frog", or " wiggle like a worm". The leapfrog band comes with fourteen preloaded games and you can add more when you connect with leapfrog App. Each activity last about 10 - 15 seconds, which is long enough for young kids. The leapfrog band tracks your childs every movement with the tracker. When your child earns enough jewels they go to the next level. The leapfrog band came out the box charge, but it has a USB cable for the computer or wall outlet. This is great news because you dont need to buy any batteries. It took me aboout thirty minutes to download the App, so it would be gear to my son age level. He LOVES everything about the leapfrog band watch and i highly recommend this product for kids between the ages of 4 to 7 years old. Older kids may get bored really fast with the watch. FYI......The leapfrog band is made of a sturdy plastic and should not broke easily. The leapfrog band even fit around an adult wrist, and i played with it too.......:-)

The Leapfrog Leapband is an innovative and creative invention. I love the toy just as much as my four year old daughter. The best part is that it encourages physical activity. The battery life is good. It was easy to set up and it came charged up which, was nice. My daughter wears it everyday. The wristband is made well for little arms. It fits nice and snug and is easy to adjust. The size is good, not too big and not too small. It's great that it came with a USB cord to power up the battery as appose to having to purchase one separately. My daughter enjoys the playful animal icons. It's also great that there are different levels to reach. This gives my daughter goals to work towards so she doesn't get bored easily. The actual games and exercises are fun, silly, creative, and she has a good time jumping around. I love that it's a wrist band that your wear! My daughter can always wear it where ever we go. It's strapped on her wrist so she can't lose it. She doesn't have to carry it around. It'll keep her busy with fun activities and she gets exercise while playing indoors and outdoors. Can't beat that.

This product is great! A very effective way for kids to be more active and have a lot of fun doing so. They get a cute little pet to take care of. They choose their pet, color of the pet, and can even change pets later if they want to (they have to unlock new ones but it doesn't take much to unlock them). There are games to play with the pets, like Pet Chef and Pet Boogie. There's even a school setting that parents can activate so that it will still track the childs motion, but will only display a clock and wont make any sounds during certain set hours. There are 36 activity challenges to unlock, and 14 default challenges. It will tell the child to hop like a frog (the timer lets them know when to stop), wiggle like a worm, roar like a tiger and so many more. They earn 'Joules' for completing activities, which they can use to unlock things. This product is not complicated at all to use and is a lot of fun. It seems nice and durable, and the screen looks even better than I expected. If you want to adjust the settings or set school hours, you'll need to have internet access to get LeapFrog Connect, but you do not have to have internet access for them to use the LeapBand. I would definitely reccomend this product. It's fun and theres so much kids can do with it.

I absolutely love this LeapFrog LeapBand. I think this is the perfect first leapfrog for kids. Toy says for children 4 to 7 years old, but I have two 3 year olds who LOVE it! Size of toy is great too. Fits just like a watch. Before your child can play with it, you will need to plug it into your computer with the USB included and upload the application from the LeapFrog Connect website. This doesn't take very long and is easy. The website and the leapband walk you through it set by set. On the website you set up an account as the parent so you can adjust the settings, you can also load more challenges and track of their activity. You can charge the leapband with the USB by plugging it into your computer. There is sleep mode hours you can set up as times your child cannot play with the leapband, like during school or at night. Just know you cannot just open it & give it straight to your child. The Leapband has some neat features. You get to pick a pet, you have 8 options of different animals and you choose the color of the animal and a name for it. It is very kid friendly & they have silly names that you can choose. It reads out the names and all the child has to do is press the star button in the middle to select it. The leapband is very easy to use and everything is done with 2 arrow buttons and a star button in the middle to select. On the top left corner is the challenge button, if you child pushes this button the leapband will give them an activity to do like jump like frog, wiggle like a worm, or swim like a fish. Then they earn rewards that they can open levels or win more pets with. The challenges really get your kid active and they get lots of exercise. I like that it also reminds them to take a break and get a drink of water. It also is a watch and timer on it. My son has fun timing himself doing different things. There are also mini games on the leapband. One of the mini games in called Pet Chef. They have you help your animal get a meal ready. You collect foods from all the food groups to make a balanced meal. My sons really like this part of the game because they have a lot of fun trying to catch the falling foods. There is also a mini game called Pet Boogie where you can make you pet dance by clicking the correct buttons. Overall I think this is a really fun toy. It is great for kids too, not only are they having fun, but they are learning about good foods to eat and getting active.

My 7 year old son loves this watch. He never seems to want to take it off. It really encourages the children to do more active play than sitting down all day. It tries to get them to become more involved and to move around more. When he first for them Leap Band it came with about 50 challenges that he could play and try to win. He has had it for under a week now and his has already achieved some of the challenges. He also have a tablet so he is able to connect the two and play track his recorded on his tablet was well as his watch. No batteries is required for this watch ( which I love) it comes with a USB cord and you can plug it into the computer or the wall to be charged. You are able to set the time as well as alarms to wake the child up for different things( such as school or activity). The child is also able to choose from different pets they would like to be on their watch. You can also go online to Leap frog.com and register the watch and be able to link it to the website as well. I like the watch for my son but I wish it has the ability to do a little more than it does (take pictures, save voice recording) or something else, but overall it is a very good product and a child 4-7 would love it.

This product is too cute. My son loved to jump around with the little character, which made it an excellent source of exercise. He loved the little pet, which he gets to feed and take care of (but doesn't die if he doesn't play with it). The pet can dance, play, and go to the pet parlor. He can unlock new pets and earn Joules points, which is a great time to teach about energy. It was easy to set up. I can log in and check his activity and help him with it. I also LOVE that this has a "quiet time" feature. I put in what time he goes to school / sleep / etc and the device will not work during those times. I can also select which challenges I want him to complete. It says compatible with other devices, but I have not yet tried those features. The only downside is that the cord to connect to the computer (and to charge the device) is short, VERY short. It almost dangles from the usb input to the desk. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product. The recommended ages are from 4-7 which is just about perfect, the wrist band is very small.

leapband not for every child

okay let me start off by saying this is a cool idea, get kids active get them off the couch. okay with that being said, I got this for my daughter thinking she would love it, since she loves her leap pad 2. well first of all this product is not for kids with sensory issues, my daughter does not what so ever even want to wear this on her arm. put it on once she was not having it. but she does like playing with it. she just holds it instead of wearing it. she loves the pet part, but personally I think its because she has the pet on her leap pad 2. the other mini games are ok for her, but she's not really interested in them. I was thinking maybe she would like this, for on the go in the car etc. but she still prefers playing with her leap pad over this. there is a lot of hand eye coordination with this and remember its suppose to be on their wrist so really they are doing that with one hand, just something to think about if your child struggles in this area. the leap band does have a good loud and clear voice which is good. but she does really like it, but she just won't wear it. if your kid is not use to wearing a watch then I suggest getting a cheap toy one for them to practice with until they are okay with, until buying this. otherwise its kind of a waste of money, because leap pad 2/3 do so much more.

Wearable Game

Reviewed in the USA on 2014-10-27T17:00:00

First and foremost let me say I was skeptical about a watch that costs so much for a kid. My 4 year old likes it but plays with it more off of her wrists than on it. It's more like a small game to keep them active that you can wear on your wrists versus a watch that has games. Does that make sense? Basically I am saying my child doesnt equate it with being a watch per se, more like a wearable electronic toy. Pros: Comfortable- Band is comfortable for little kids. It doesn't take much to turn a child off from a toy. Thankfully she can wear this for an extended period of time and doesn't complain. Gets Them Moving- Love love love that the kids dont just sit and zone out. They are challenged to make movements like jumping up and down and pretending to swim. In this technology age it's good to see something that they move around to play with versus just sitting and playing. Personalization- Kids can personalize their pet and things like the color and name of the pet. I love that the pet makes faces or gives ques like being sleepy when it wants to be played with. (see attached pictures) Sleep/ School Timers- The pet goes to sleep during pre-set hours for school and sleep. This, to me, is awesome sauce. Cons: Sleep mode quickly- The watch goes into sleep mode quickly. It's good for the battery life but I constantly hear the start up sound to wake it back up. Pretty annoying. No volume control- Why can't I control the volume? Why make an electronic device that has no volume control? It's not necessarily loud, but it isn't very quiet either. The frequent restarts would be less iritating if the volume were just a little lower. Overall, I would recommend it but keep in mind that your child, like mine, may not actually WEAR it like a watch while playing with it.

If only it were waterproof!

Reviewed in the USA on 2014-10-21T17:00:00

My overall feelings on this is that this watch is defiantly entertaining for a child but its just an average toy. The games you can play are easy for them to pick up and complete on there own. The screen display is nice quality especially for a toy. I can see this watch keeping my child occupied on a road trip but maybe getting left in the toy box at home. I like as a non tech savy parent how easy it was to install on my own. I also like that I customize the times my child can play with the watch. Another plus was that it has a rechargeable battery but I wish it stayed in "watch" mode instead of shutting off when not playing games. Overall I think its a good toy but I think Leapfrog missed the mark on not making this watch waterproof. I cant seem to let that 1 feature go and almost gave it a full on negative review. Kids get messy easily and its a lot of money to see go down the drain for instance when they wash there hands and water splashes on it. I also think comfort is a little lacking. The band was very constricted and my child wanted to hold the watch rather than wear it. The length of the band was pretty good though if only she would wear it.
