problem was the control panel. becomes junk in 1.5 years. Make sure you buy extended warranties on all Pit Boss products. You'll be happy you did.
I read reviews for this unit and they seemed to be pretty good. So, I purchased the unit thinking I was getting what was described in the description. 1 - the cabinet was poorly factory assembled. you could see daylight all the way around the top from the inside. 2 - The door hinges were crooked and when you closed the door there was a gap at the hinge side and sealed at the latch side. 3 - When doing the burn-off as described in the manual, I noted that the Temp gauge was way wrong as I had temp probes inside. 4 - The lowest temp I could get was 310, highest was 465 @ outside temp of 88. 5 - When checking the water pan, be careful of the HOT door latch. You will have to check the water pan frequently as it is only 1 1/2 in. deep. 6 - When checking the chip pan, make sure you have on an oven mitt or something comparable as that handle will be VERY HOT. 7 - The cooking racks are too small and will fall out of the rack guides if you are not careful. I was very disappointed with the PIT BOSS and sent it back before even trying to cook with it. When smoking meats, anyone that knows about smoking meat knows that temp control it important. This unit is very poor on temp control. Over all, 2 thumbs down.
