Pay No Mind to the Negative Reviews!

Reviewed in the USA on 2011-05-14T17:00:00

I read all the negative and positive reviews on this product before I went to my local store to buy it. The negative reviews certainly did rule my mind and I was VERY hesitant to buy it, especially after reading that it didn't like to stay running. Here's the part to pay attention to - Don't follow the starting instructions to the "T". Follow all steps until it starts up with Half Choke - STOP THERE! The negative reviews were correct that with Full Choke it will bog down and stall when you pull the throttle trigger. But if you run it at Half Choke she runs like a champ! As for any other reviews saying it doesn't have enough power or anything like that - all lies. By the time I bought this I had grass that, at some spots, was almost up to my knees. With a logical approach I chopped right through even the roughest, toughest weeds. My only complaint was that there is no telescoping neck and I'm pretty tall. Not uncomfortable to use, but it could be a little longer. For $65 I definitely think it's worth the price!

Happy and lucky twice ! Buy it!

I am so happy that I did not pay attention to some of the bad reviews on this weed eater because it is the second one I have now owned. The first FeatherLite I bought about ten years ago and it just got tired two weeks ago. I had used the original one for ten years twice a week to edge my front and average sized back yard with no problems. That is why I just picked up the new FL25C at my local WalMart for $64.97. I had no problems assembling it at all. I fueled it up, primed the fuel bulb pulled about 5 times and heard the first fire off. I ran it for about a minute on half choke until it warmed enough to take throttle well and then went to 3rd or running position. This thing runs like it wants to fly man....perfect. I trimmed my front and back yard in no time at all and it did the same job I have been used to on my old FeatherLite Weed Eater... I feel sorry for people that pass up this product because of the negative reviews. I have been happy or lucky twice now with mine! Love it! PS. I was so worried from the reviews I read that it was not going to stay running that I pre-ordered the carburetor adjustment tool 530-035560 from Mowers4u.com. It was less than $10.00 shipped. I may never need it though as it runs perfectly right out of the box.....

Another great trimmer from Weed Eater

Reviewed in the USA on 2012-07-08T17:00:00

My first Weed Eater brand trimmer was bought back in 1998. It lasted through some very tough trimming sessions, let me tell you! I was rather sad to see that thing die out. I looked and looked for that same model but couldnt find one. So I gave up and just gave the trimming over to my Husband. Well, last night I decided to look and see what this brand had to offer now in the way of trimmers. I love how the trimmers are so light weight but was afraid these had went up in weight but while reading the reviews, the question of weight had been put to rest. I read many negative reviews on this product and have to say that after having experienced none of those negative things, this product has proven to me to be ever bit as good as the little but powerful trimmer I had back in the 90s. When I went to use the trimmer, I primed it like the directions said. 6 times I pumped the bubble, then set the choke to half. I pulled about 5 times and it started right up. I allowed the trimmer to run about 30 secs to be sure the mix was going through the trimmer and getting a deep drink before puting it to task. After 30 secs, I went right to work...never did this trimmer cut off, choke or bog down. I finally had my fav trimmer back!!!! After having went so many years without my fav trimmer, I was reunited with the old friend I knew so many years ago. I am so happy with my trimmer! I used the trimmer and found I didnt have to gun it at all just to trim the bermuda, but I wanted to see what this baby had in it so I went to my woodline and opened it up just a little and it knocked down briars that had to be ever bit of 1/4 in girth like I was cutting bread. Not that I will always knock down stuff that thick, but to know it will is comforting in case there may be something of that thickness in my way on a trimming session, I know this baby will get it done for me. I used the trimmer about 20 minutes and thought I was done. 30 minutes later I saw I had missed some scraggles of bermuda so I ran to get my trusty helper again and yanked that cord and it started right up on the first crank. So, even though this trimmer has only been in use for such a short time, I can tell you by the way it handles and runs that it is the trusty, well made and dependable trimmer I knew so long ago. I will be buying myself another one in the next week or two so I will have a spare in case for some reason these arent made any more. There seems to be a trend of that happening to me about anything....I find something I love or that works so well for me and then BAM! Discontinued (I suspect the things that I choose and go poof are things too well made and get yanked because they ARE too dependable) So a spare for me will be bought I dont know what the malfunction is with the people who have given this trimmer a negative review, but Ive experienced no such things and really hate these ones couldnt have experienced the sheer joy I have gotten to experience by being reunited with such a past favorite. I will be glad to take one of these off yoou hands should you want to trash it cause you cant do anything with it. There isnt anything bad I can say about this trimmer. It meets all my needs. Im 5'5" so it isnt too short, in fact, its a perfect fit. Im female, so its light weight is another perfection. The price I paid for it was amazing and am so happy it was 70 bucks and not 170....=) Very affordable for such a dependable trimmer. The line fed without a problem, you just have to remember to have it going and throttled while popping for the line to feed through. Cant have it idled and pop it or it will shut off, not that its a bad thing, just a reminder. Puting the trimmer together was so simple. No issues there So, yeah, I think this is a slam dunk amazing trimmer and I look forward to owning this baby for at least as long as the other weed Eater brand trimmer. Thanks Weed Eater!

Super Performance for a Featherlight!
(5)
Reviewed in the USA on 2012-03-17T17:00:00

I tried several new style trimmers that had the dual exit cutting line and I was completely dissatisfied with them. I searched FOR MONTHS trying to find a dependable model with the SINGLE cutting line. A friend found this model for me and I was completely hesitant in using it because it was a Featherlight model. After doing an extensive search and NOT finding any other single line models, I finally decided to see how this model worked. I used it for 4 hours non-stop and I tell you truly.....I was completely AMAZED at the power and performance that this model had. Never once did it bog down, stall, and even hesitate to cut the thickest of heavy weeds including Johnson grass that was nearly 6 foot tall. When the line ran out, I didn't have any extra of the .065 line but I had a huge spool of the .080 line in the garage. After examining the small .065 retention hole for the end of the line and determing that the .080 line would not fit, I simply took a utility knife and trimmed the end of the .080 line for about a half-inch making it small enough to fit the hole. I loaded the .080 line on the spool and it works even better that the .065 line. The machine still ran like clockwork and it didn't have any problems in feeding the line. After the job was completed, I decided to go buy another one to save for later after I wear this one out. My last Weedeater lasted me well over 20 years so I can't complain! KUDOS to the Wal-Mart BUYER who was responsible for selecting this particular model! I AGREE with the other reviewer who wrote "Pay No Mind to the Negative Reviews!, 05/15/2011". To possibly make you a happy Wal-Mart customer, if you had trouble with this item, I would like to interject a few suggestions. All of my power equipment lasts for many years: From my experience in watching others mix oil & fuel for these 2 -cyle engines, I find that many people have a habit of mixing the oil too rich thinking that a little "extra oil won't hurt anything". A mixture of even 50:1 mix is still good and the trimmer will run forever with less stalling. My old trimmer was also a 40:1 mix but running it at 50:1 still made it last for 20 years and the engine NEVER failed to operate. Maybe anyone having trouble with the engine running can try the 50:1 ratio and see if their trimmer runs well. A 50:1 mix only requires exactly 2.5 ounces of oil to a gallon of gas. Be SURE that the gas is fresh. Any small enegine will not run properly if the gas is old. If the gas you are using is over a month old, then you will see a decrease in performance in your trimmer. A good suggestion is to not buy more gas than what you can use in a month. The one gallon container is sufficient. If you want to keep the best mix, only mix one-half of a gallon and use only 1.25 ounces of oil. Only mix what you intend to use in a short time. If you keep an extra one-gallon container of fresh gas (one that you don't ever mix with the oil), dump the leftover in your car's fuel tank as it will get used quickly and replace the one gallon with fresh gas. Pour only half of that container into the final container which will have the oil/gas mixture. Be sure to mark both containers well so that you can always know which one contains the oil/gas mixture. (Use a permanent marker with big numbers like "50:1" Oil/Gas to readily identify the right container). With respect to the choke setting, experiment where the machine runs best. There are usually TWO adjustment screws for the fuel. Most end users do not know that the fuel goes through the HIGH SPEED jet before it goes through the IDLE jet; To properly set the speed (even for the IDLE Speed setting, one MUST set the HIGH speed FIRST and get it set before attempting to set the IDLE speed. With the engine running, make sure the engine setting has the choke off and set the HIGH SPEED screw so that the engine runs at its highest speed possible. That is a prerequisite before setting the IDLE speed. After the high speed is set, then the IDLE speed jet can be adjusted. If you have possibly adjusted the screws improperly causing the engine to not run efficiently, close both jets (tighten the adjustment screws closed) and then open them to 3 full turns....3 FULL TURNS completely (360 degrees per turn). That is a good starting point to begin setting the High speed jet and then the IDLE speed jet. I hope this helps at least 99% of the users who had trouble because if you can get it running well with these tips, then I will be as happy as you are knowing that it could possibly make your day. THANK YOU in advance for reading my review. THANK YOU WAL-MART for making my day!

I read the negative comments, and all I can say about them is the people that wrote them either dont know the correct way to use one of these or just like to complain. I have been using this product for years, and it always has served me well. The gas/oil mixture has to be right or it wont run well, but other than that, I have never had a problem with the Weedeater Featherlite gas trimmer. In fact, I used mine so much over the past 6 1/2 years that I have nearly worn it out and am about to go to Walmart and purchase a new one. The price of a new one is almost as cheap as having my old one repaired at a small engine shop.

starts right up but problem we have is the line it came with. It keeps getting stuck will not extend out. once we get it going works great but the line keeps getting stuck. I would probably get a different line for it. after fixing it it works great for the price. It is very light and easy to handle.

I've read some reviews on some of the inexpensive gas units that weren't very kind but I have to admit, I'm glad a purchased this one! I originally was looking at battery trimmers and I couldn't find one the was low in price that received a kind rating. I purchased this trimmer with low expectations and was surprized. If you are looking for something that you can use on a large area, this might not work. I wanted something that was light and didn't have to drag a extension cord all over. The first time I started it wasn't very fun. Now that I've used it 3-4 times, I have it down to a science. Starts every time!

Overall this has been a good product since I bought the weedeater. I was tired of the batter powered one I had running out of charge so I decided to go back to a gas trimmer. Used it a few times and so far it has preformed very well for the price. I do not think you could beat the deal of $65 for the trimmer and even bought the extended warranty(which I normally never do) for only $6. I would say the only reason I give it four stars and not five is when you do rev up the motor to full speed in heavier weeds it seems to hesitate a bit and seems to run out of steam. However it is good for 95% or better of the grass and weeds in my lawn. Very impressed that it does not smoke much at all(all 2 cycles will have a little with oil in the gas). After a decade hiatus from gas trimmers I am satisfied with this trimmer. If you have a lawn in the city that is a typical 1/4 acre or less this is perfect for you. If you go over a 1/2 acre or have think amounts of weeds and grass then you might want to go with a larger gas trimmer.

I bought my first one of these and it wouldn't run at all I tried everything to get it going but it just wouldn't work. I could get it started but if I tried to use the throttle at all after it was idling it would die. I took it back and exchanged it thinking it was just a fluke. I had the new weed eater for 3 weeks and it the plastic piece below the nut at the bottom melted. The spool won't fit in the head now and if you force it in it just flies out when you turn it on. Before it melted it was difficult to get running and didn't like to stay running. After buying this I am hesitant to buy any more gas powered trimmers at all. It was a terrible experience and I wouldn't recommend to anyone that they should buy one of these... ever
