Reliable Piece of Machinery

I'm going on my fourth year with this mower and have NEVER had a problem with it. It starts on the first pull every time - the first run of the season is the only exception (which takes about 3 pulls). I've found that maintenance is key to keeping your mower working right. The negative reviews I've read on this mower lead me to believe that they are not replacing the oil every year or emptying the carb & gas tank at the end of the season; which is as simple as allowing it to completely run out of gas. I would highly recommend this mower to anyone who wants a reliable machine at an affordable price.

A great mower for the value.

First thing I want to mention is that this mower is incredibly light. It's so light that it's almost effortless to push this mower across a lawn. Who cares about self-propelled mowers when they're this light. I've had other lawn mowers with Briggs and Stratton engines so I knew it was going to get a great product. That's right! Weed Eater doesn't make the engine, Briggs and Stratton does. Weed Eater only makes the body of the lawn mower. So for all the people that are having lawn mower problems it's not weed eaters fault, nor is it Briggs and Stratton's fault… it's most likely the operators fault. For the price, you just can't beat this for the value. I originally bought this lawn mower, took it home, and then after buying it read all these reviews. I became very skeptical at first. Then I went and mowed my lawn and I was simply blown away about how this $150 lawn mower blew several $250+ lawn mowers away. On top of all that it's very simple, you don't need a college degree to get this thing running. After using this mower today, I'll refer it to everybody I know! Yes, this mower was that good!

No throttle control but, i haven't needed it. The motor seems strong enough not to matter. Starts every time with no problem. I bought a display and only cost 74.00. What a value. Can't beat Briggs & Stratton motors. I had an old one and the motor outlasts the frame.

I purchased this mower a couple weeks ago because it is a mulching mower and the price. It rolls right out of the box with only the handle to click into place. It comes with oil which is plus. Overall handling & performance is very good even in tall grass. I have been burned by more expensive brands in the past. So far I am very pleased with this mower and would highly recommend it to anyone.

I was hestitant about buying this mower because of the price, but I am happy that I did. I just bought a new home and the grass hadn't been cut in a few weeks, and this mower didn't have a single problem. Once oil and gas was added, it fired right up!!!! I would definately recommend this mower to all of my friends and family.

Issues are easy to fix.

This mower appears to be excellent for the money. Don't expect it to be as good as mowers costing twice as much. There are a few minor issues that can be easily fixed. First the issue of sparkplug fouling; Replace the stock spark plug with an e3 plug (available at wal-mart for about $5) they are much more resistant to fouling, and run 5w30 or 10w30 synthetic oil because lawn mowers naturally run hot and will burn standard oil, synthetic is much more resistant to burning. As for the carburetor issues first squeeze the excess oil out of the air filter. Most of the filters come from the factory excessively oiled and are literally damp and dripping with oil, this excess oil can clog the carb and briggs' own service manual states to squeeze out the filter after re oiling it so why they come from the factory like this I don't understand. Also the carb is a diaphragm design that uses rubber diaphragm's instead of a float this is an extremely simple design if it does fail you can get rebuild kits from most home improvement stores for about $3-$5 and the kit consists of 4 parts (The pieces of rubber that make up the diaphragm, a gasket, and a primer bulb) rebuilding this carb takes about 5 minutes and is not much more complex than replacing a spark plug or changing the oil. Speaking of spark plugs and oil don't forget to change them at the reccomended intervals. With these simple fixes this can be a reliable long lasting mower. If you want a mower that doesn't require this extra mantinance you'll have to spend at least $200 to get one with a float carborator and an oilless paper air filter.

I was attracted to this lawnmower in early May 2011 because of its price. I bought it, used it twice, and then it would not start. During the two times that I was able to use it, the engine became noticably weaker and weaker until it finally stopped. I returned it to Walmart and got another one. I used the second mower twice with the same results as with the first. At that point, which was yesterday (6/29/11). I was angry with Weedeater for selling a lawnmower that seemed to be good for only two cuttings. Yesterday, I started reading some other reviews on this site about this mower and noticed that about half the buyers love it and half hate it. I found two reviews that offered suggestions to people like me that could not get their mower started after only a few uses. What I learned from others on this site is that this lawn mower has been shipped with the WRONG SPARK PLUG. My mower came with a Champion plug (RJ19LM - a short plug), and two reviewers on this site said that the mower needs a long plug. This morning, I replaced the short plug with a Champion plug (RN9YC - a long plug), and my mower started right up. I used it this morning for about an hour, and the engine was strong and powerful for the entire cut, just like it had been when I first bought it. It is too early after only one use to say that my Weedeater lawn mower is a great mower, but clearly replacing the spark plug has made a huge difference. I would give the two reviewers that wrote about the bad spark plug 5 stars (*****) and my thanks. But I will only give Weedeater 3 stars (***) because they should not send out a mower with the wrong equipment.

I bought this mower at a WalMart in Oklahoma City in March of this year-yesterday it died forever. At first it did well & was easy to start (I am arthritic & have a bad shoulder), and mulched so well that if I let the grass get over an inch taller than I had last mowed, it would bog the mower down. The outside of the muffler fell off about 5 weeks ago, and the mower also seemed to suck me into dirt in spots that I thought it would clear, and that's the cause of it's demise. I was mowing about 3 weeks ago & it bogged in an unlevel area. When I was cleaning it, I noticed that the deck was cracking by the right rear bolt (the deck is VERY thin!), and I though I would fix it with some JB Weld and go on. I mowed yesterday and hit the unlevel dirt again, and the blade hit the deck and broke in two as the mower was dying. I found that the deck was now cracked in the right front, too, allowing the engine to lift up to the left. I am glad that the blade half didn't come off at full force! There were no rocks involved, nor anything else hard-just dirt. As far as I can tell, the Briggs & Stratton engine is still serviceable, with no visible bending of the crankshaft, which one would expect along with the other damage that dirt caused the blade & housing. Now the last mowers I bought from WalMart( I just recently moved into a house where I have to mow)was over 15 years ago, and were both Murrays-a rider & a push. They saw some heavy use and lasted a good ten years. I am sickened to see how cheaply things are made today & will not buy another Weedeater product. I don't have the money to throw away. Nor do I have the money to pay someone to mow every 3 or 4 days, so what am I to do now?

Do not waste your money on this mower. I cut with it one time and since I have to work on the carbureator every time I get ready to use it. It will start but then idle down very low, it is like the gas does not get to the engine. Very, Very aggravating. If you plan to buy just try to spend a little more money on a better brand name mower. Diappointed in Wal Mart this time.
