I am an older female who has some health issues and past shoulder surgery. I don't have a very large yard, but it is not very level and the grass is higher or lower in some areas. My lawncare provider could mow and trim my yard within five minutes (and it looked like it) and charged about $7 a minute. Well I got tired of being ripped off and there were always areas that ended up getting neglected. I had no expectatiion when I ordered this, only that I knew I could not use a traditional gas powered mower, and I did not want to fool with a cord. It had plenty of power and I could not tell any drain on the battery even after a good 45 - 60 mins. of work. The ease of not having to pull a cord for any start/restart is a game changer. The battery is somewhat heavy if you bring it inside to charge it (which I do), but you can also charge it while in the mower. The height adjustment was useful for my yard issues. Just buy it already, you'll love it.
I thought I was gonna have to recharge in the middle of cutting my lawn, because I have a very big lawn. I was able to cut the front and the back, and still had close to the same power I started with. That machine far exceeded my expectations! Yours Truly; PingueDesign
I followed the instructions in the instruction manual and everything performed exactly as expected. The instructions say that the battery has to be put on the recharger every two weeks or it could be ruined. So I figured who knows how long it had sat in a warehouse before it was shipped to me, so I should charge it up for the first time as soon as I bring it home. Since the instructions say not to let it get over charged or it could be ruined, I used a timer on the outlet to ensure that it only got exactly 15 hours of charge time. The instructions say that the recharger that comes with the mower is not a trickle charger so you can't just leave it on charge all the time. I think that they should build a circuit into the charger so that it turns itself off when the battery is fully charged. Since there is a green light that comes on on the charger when the battery is fully charged, I would think that would not be difficult to do. It would be simpler and easier for owners to just leave the battery connected to the charger when the mower is not in use so they wouldn't have to remember to recharge the battery every two weeks all year round to keep it from becoming ruined. Anyway, my lawn hasn't come in fully from winter yet so I only have a few small patches to mow until it really starts growing in the Spring. But so far the mower has worked great and I am still using it on its first charge. It's much quieter than a gasoline mower and cuts just fine. I will see how long a charge lasts when my whole lawn comes in and I have to mow both front and back lawns. But I find it far more convenient to just plug this lawn mower in for charging than to have to always be getting gas, oil, spark plugs, air filters, etc., changing the oil, filling the gas tank, checking the air filter, checking the oil, etc. on a gas mower.
Here are the observations for the first and third runs of the new battery powered mower. It required the full 15 hours of charge time that the manual said it needed. The charger is a standard 24vac output unit, about the size of a laptop charger. I went out with a watch on to see how long the battery would last. That wasn't necessary - it outlasted me. I thought I could probably drain it in 30 minutes of use. 40 minutes of run time (and two rest breaks) later, I had finished the yard and it still showed 80% battery power. I can probably mow again without having to charge it. It pushes the same as the old gas mower, probably about the same weight if not a bit heavier, and had no problems at any time, even in knee-high thick weeds (the stalk of one which you can see sticking out the right side of the cowling). It handled small limbs and everything else as well as the old gas mower would. Starts with the pull of a lever on the handlebar control box, and sounds like a house-hold box fan running on 'high' setting. Very quiet. A single lever lets you adjust all wheels for height. It cuts and mulches well, and comes with a side-discharge mount which I didn't use. Just on a lark I took the mower into an area that I had dared not take the gas mower for the past couple of years, and it chewed it all up with no problem; small saplings and vines, etc. The smaller 17" cut let me get into areas that I couldn't with the old mower. 3rd running of the new battery powered lawn mower, and I can sum it up as "WOW!". It is such a lawn chewer. Nothing seems to bother it and the battery just lasts and lasts. 3rd lawn mowing - I had recharged the battery after the end of the first two mowings because it finally needed it. That was a couple of weeks ago. Pulled it out of the shed this weekend and it was still fully charged and still over 80% charge when I finished the 3rd mowing, so I put it right back into the shed again. Just pull the level and go - couldn't possibly be easier. Really seriously impressed with this machine. It saves SO much hassle. Wish I'd gotten this long ago.
Only problem with the mower is that it was apparently dropped in shipping as both wheels on one side were bent. I was able to straighten them, and the mower now works like a dream!
I purchased this lawn mower about a month ago and have only used it 3 times. So far, I love it. No gas, no pulling that cord. Just charge it before you use it, put the key in and it comes on. I have a fairly large lot to mow. I live on a corner and also have to mow an alleyway behind my property. The charge lasted throughout the whole mow.
iThe only reason my husband and I are rating this as a four is because it will not hold charge for a half acre yard. It is also not as powerful as a gas mower, but with all that said, we are really pleased to have purchase this. It will save us in gas, oil, and maintenance later on. So easy to assemble, even my husband could do it (LOL!). Not to mention that this same mower is sooo much more on other websites. It still makes some noise, but nowhere near as much as traditional mowers. Overall, it's worth it.
I just purchased this mower and it works great and was easy for a first-timer like me. There is NOT a grass clipping bag included as with some other brands and I wish that was more clearly stated. BUT, what really should have been mentioned is that the battery MUST BE RE-CHARGED EVERY MONTH --- even in when not in use!! That is an important fact that would have made me look further at another brand. I wanted convenience not more work. Sorry I purchased this one.
Works as well as gas powered, battery life great, doesn't come close to losing charge for small/moderate jobs. Lots of plastic so wouldn't advise for heavy duty use. Lot I use on is close to an acre and use to trim and serves the purpose wonderfully. Better price than most. Happy with purchase
The 17" Earthwise is fairly light in weight and small in size. I have just recently purchased this mower so I have only had the chance to use it once on a lawn that was fairly thick and a little moist and it did fine with no stalling of shutting down. I got about 40 minutes of fairly hard work out of it before the battery ran down. It would be a good choice for smaller yards. Not much power so it works best if the grass isn't too high. It has a very solid cutting height adjuster. The battery charger does not allow for trickle charging so you have to remember to unplug it after charging (about 12 hours for a complete charge).
